Lexus LF-A Prototype to race Nurburgring 24 hours!

Lexus LF-A

No signs of the Honda NSX anywhere but that other Japanese supercar project seems to be still going strong. The Lexus LF-A Prototype will enter the 24-hour Nurburgring race set to be held during the 21st to 24th May 2009. It will be the 2nd time in a row the prototype car will be running the race.

The Lexus LF-A Prototype race car will be run by GAZOO Racing in the Division 2 SP8 (engine close to production) class. The LF-A measures 4,530mm long, 1,880mm wide and 1,200mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,605mm. It runs 305/30R20 Bridgestone rubber.

Mounted at the rear and mated to a mid-rear transaxle gearbox be a 4,805cc V10 engine said to be producing over 500 PS.

The fact there are no "signs of the Honda NSX anywhere" would probably be because Honda scrapped the NSX project at the same time as they pulled out of F1

All that's missing is a black carbon-fibre bonnet, white and black panda paint job, and a sticker on the front doors that says "Fujiwara Tofu"… ^_^

Lexus is more clever than Nissan, who's GT-R Nuerburgring speed record was never officially recognised (Nissan carefully avoided a direct competition with the Porsche GT2 under the supervision of the press).

Lexus can at least claim that they won the "engine close to production" class. Its competitors are btw: Audi V8 from 1994 (Team Derichs Rennwagen e.V.), BMW 135i (Doerr Motorsport) BMW E46 from 2006 (Besaplat Team) and a Holden Commodore (Mal Rose)…

There's a lot of classes in a Le Man series, two of them prototypes. But normally they are designated LMP for Le Man Prototype. But they are raced mixed with other classes.

On the ADAC 24H 'Ring, IS-F didn't finish last year. So Gazoo Racing is running 2 LF-A and 1 IS-F. This year they just need to finish. They should try to get higher than 121st in rank.

Kind of weird if new Toyota Supra will get 5 L V10 engine with 500+ hp and carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) body structure..? So this is totally not a next Supra!! no one will buy a Supra if the price merely expected close to USD 250 k and might even more!! (it has to be said that sophisticated CFRP structure is no way cheap).

So with that kind of whooping price, spec ,technology n long development time pour into this very single model surely it will be under the badge of Lexus brand.. Definitely it will be a halo car from Lexus and shut up all the critic from fans of its Germany rival. – Can't wait to see the real production version..
