Mitsuoka Himiko special edition – only 20 to be made

Mitsuoka, famous for its old world styled Nissans and the child scaring Orochi, has unveiled the special edition Himiko roadster. Like the Orochi, the name Himiko has a story behind it.

Himiko is an ancient Shaman queen from ancient Japan who ruled over the people of Wa. She supposedly bewitched her people with magic and sorcery while ruling the country with assistance from her brother successfully. The designer of the car wanted to embody Himiko’s radiant beauty and dignity when combining the charm of classic car design with modern technology. The car is based on the Mazda MX-5’s platform with a stretched wheelbase.

Under that long bonnet is the MX-5’s 170 hp 2.0-litre engine mated to a five-speed manual or a 162 hp version of that unit with a six-speed auto. This special edition features a soft top, two-tone red and black colour scheme, leather upholstered interior and wood trim. While the exterior is uniquely styled, the cabin is pure MX-5. Production will be limited to 20 units, with each example costing US$56,500 in Japan.

  • Proton pls la.. on Aug 05, 2010 at 12:31 pm

Not bad! The car is using the Mazda MX-5?s platform.
i wondering when is the proton will use this kind of ideas to their car.
their models is too boring and they only have their own 1.6 campro enjin.
Haiz!!! when they can produce their very own 2.0cc or 2.0 turbo like evo&sti??
btw..i still support Proton. Gambateh la..Proton u can make it!!

Proton better NOT do this kind of thing. How much are they going to sell it for? US$56,500 ?? That’s RM180,000 !! That’s in Japan. In Malaysia, with governent tax, how much? Rm 200,000 ??? Who’s going to buy them?

Enough already with Chancellor, stretched limos etc. Waste of money and time. Better stick to bread & butter ie. small family car.

Produce another engine? I read somewhere, to get even, an engine need to sell at least 500,000 units. That’s half a million sets. That will take proton, what, 10 years? Just to get even. By that time, new technology will come out.

This problem already happened to campro. Now people are looking at start-stop technology. Can it be fitted to campro? Or new engine design again?

It’s not how many cars you can build. It’s how many you can sell. That’s smart business.

If P1 produce it, it may not be tax so high… Proton need foreign help to built up the base… If not nowadays a lot of company is joining up or sharing platform & technology?

    • A Wiesmann roadster has a little bit more power (342hp to 507hp) and is a little bit more expensive (starting at €88 900=RM355.600)… ;)

Jacob, are u sure their selling for US56,500 (RM180,000) only and 20 units produce. The total sales is only RM3.6 million which is no way they can get back their development cost!

I think it’s more likely 200 units, or even 2000 units.
