C63 AMG not enough? Here’s the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507, which delivers more power, more torque and some SLS AMG tech to deep-pocketed, horsepower-hungry speedsters out there. The coupe is shown here, but Edition 507 is also available in sedan and wagon form.
The naturally aspirated M 156 6.3 litre V8 engine has been massaged further to push out 50 hp more, to 507 hp, hence the name. Max torque is up by 10 Nm to 610 Nm at 5,200 rpm.
Tech transfer from the SLS AMG was done to achieve this – the V8 features forged pistons, connecting rods and a lightweight crankshaft, saving three kilos in the process. A new engine control system rounds off the updates. The titanium grey-painted variable intake manifold is a characteristic feature of the uprated V8.
The Edition 507 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds as a coupe or sedan, and in 4.3 seconds as an estate. As such it outperforms the 457 hp standard model by two tenths of a second, and the variants with the AMG Performance package (487 hp) by a tenth. Top speed is electronically limited to 280 km/h.
More speed needs better brakes, so as standard, the Edition 507 comes with an AMG high-performance brake system featuring composite tech for higher fatigue strength and lower warping characteristics. They are also lighter. The brake discs are ventilated and perforated all round and are clamped by six-piston aluminium fixed calipers on the front axle and four-piston fixed calipers at the back.
Externally, the Edition 507 is characterised by a host of exclusive design features. They include a bonnet from the C63 AMG Coupé Black Series, new AMG light-alloy cross-spoke wheels (titanium grey with a high-sheen finish, or matte black with high-sheen rim flanges) and AMG sports stripes in matte graphite grey.
The boot lid spoiler lip, the exterior mirror housings as well as the surrounds on the grille and DRLs are all finished in high-gloss black. Darkened headlamps also add a sporty touch. Available as an optional extra exclusively for the Edition 507 is the “designo magno” platinum paint finish. The package also includes a voucher to attend a driver training session at the AMG Driving Academy.
The Edition 507 will get its first public showing at the Geneva Motor Show next month, while sales in Germany will commence in June. The standard C63 AMG Coupe was launched in Malaysia last year – click here to read and see more.
