GALLERY: 2015 Toyota Hilux TRD Sportivo – more aggressive looks, racier interior for new variants

2015_Toyota_Hilux_TRD_Sportivo_ 002

The ubiquitous Toyota Hilux is back with more (visual) attitude! New for 2015, it now comes with the rather extroverted TRD Sportivo treatment – available on the double cab 2.5G and 3.0G variants. Unfortunately, those hoping for more power will be disappointed as technical specifications remain unchanged.

As a reminder, the 2.5 litre, 2KD-FTV four-cylinder turbodiesel engine pumps out 144 hp at 3,400 rpm and 343 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,800 rpm. The 3.0 litre, 1KD-FTV mill puts out 163 hp at 3,400 rpm and an identical (oddly enough) 343 Nm of torque between 1,400 and 3,200 rpm. Both are mated to four-speed auto ‘boxes.

Aesthetics are the main course on the Toyota Hilux TRD Sportivo with a new bodykit, decals and LED daytime running lights being featured. Black 15-inch alloy wheels are featured on the 2.5G TRD Sportivo – the truck you’re looking at now. The 3.0G variant adds on 17-inch black alloys. Only a difference in colour is apparent as the wheel designs remain identical to the ones on the non-TRD variant.

If contrasting red highlights make your day, the TRD Sportivo treatment will definitely impress with its lower red lip strip along the front bumper. Additional red side decals will lead one to the rear of the truck where a redesigned diffuser awaits – again sporting a red strip. An optional TRD sports bar on the rear – worth RM3,990 – further distinguishes this variant over its slightly emasculated siblings.

Inside, black leather seats with contrasting (more) red stitching take centre stage. On the door armrests and instrument panel, “carbon-fibre cubic printing” (not tacky at all!) is featured. TRD Sportivo carpet mats help set the mood when you’re rushing to the nearest construction site.

Available as an option, the DVD-AVX entertainment system with a 6.1-inch colour touchscreen features the usual array of a DVD player, MP3, USB, SD card, and Bluetooth connectivity along with a reverse camera. The DVD-AVN system – featured here – adds on everything there is plus a seven-inch touchscreen, navigation, Bluetooth and voice recognitions capabilities.

Two new colour schemes debut on the Double Cab variants – Attitude Black and Grey Metallic. On-the-road prices without insurance for the 2.5 TRD Sportivo variant begin at RM101,746.70 – models with metallic paint are priced at RM102,406.70 – while the 3.0 TRD Sportivo starts at RM109.819.50, irrespective of paint schemes. As with all Hilux models, a three-year/100,000 km (whichever comes first) warranty is offered.

alamak, trying to be sporty as Triton VGT GS but hardy match it coz all upgrades seems to be easily done locally with local suppliers, fr bumper extension made in Balakong, rim power coated in Rawang, leather seat made in Kepong, cubic printed in Shah Alam…

Nothing engineered from factory like sunroof and rear power window.

In Japan, TRD really means performance that you could prove with engine power, handling

In Malaysia, TRD means only bodykits, and cost more. Just for syoik-syoik purpose.

A Ha Din – Couldn’t agree more. Competitors have been upgrading their models like mad, whereas Hilux’ engine specs remained the same for more than 3 years…come on, Toyota Japan can do way better than this.

Yes, it’s the best-selling pickup (and the most involved in rollover accidents as well). But that doesn’t mean it’s the best pickup available. This TRD Hilux actually sums up most Toyota owners mentality: all show and no go. They prefer cosmestics add-ons instead of useful safety techs. We can’t actually put all the blame on UMW alone. UMW is simply selling what most of these buyers are willing to pay for.

…for all intents … Something befitting a TRD decal should have been a low-Rider, rwd, with fat road based tyres.

Come to think of that, Why doesn’t anyone make that configuration? The only ones done before are base spec models which are hopessly underpowered.
