Public transport fare hikes did not discourage public usage – SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar

Syed-Hamid-Albar

According to Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar, the recent hike in public transportation fares has done little to discourage the public from using these services.

In the report by The Sun Daily, Syed Hamid said discounts put in place for students, senior citizens and the disabled, have helped in easing the impact of the recent fare hikes. Recently, Prasarana and Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) announced revisions to the fare structure of their services.

“In terms of the number of passengers, there has not been any effects. From the figures that we have, the number of passengers continues to increase and is very encouraging,” he told The Sun Daily. He added that the government will continue to provide up to RM250 million a year to support the operational costs of the rail system in Malaysia.

Syed Hamid also stated that to revise public transportation fares based on the fluctuation of oil prices, which has been on the decline lately, is unreasonable. “You can’t predict it, there are also other costs to be taken into account. I think this is a non-issue,” he said. What are your thoughts on the matter?

This is because the public has no choice but to take it.
Not everyone can afford a car to travel.

It is easy to talk when your kakak ipar, bro in law, sis in law, kakak mertua, wife’s sister’s son, wife’s brother’s son all got multi million ringgit or Billion ringgit contracts through you. And you are getting big returns too. So of course, you cannot feel the pinch of how the normal rakyat feel and how we suffer. every sen matters to the rakyat.

The Ministers also go in fancy cars and fancy escorts. Never seen once also Minister take LRT, MRT or Teksi. Go to UK, you can see even full Minister taking London Underground tube every morning to work.

Come on Albar, please come clean on your wife who has so many teksi companies and permits. This not conflict of interest?

    • SPAD is the MAIN Problem on Feb 05, 2016 at 10:31 am

Actually, the big problem is SPAD.

SPAD’s chairman Albar’s wife owns many teksi companies. When Uber and Grabcar came into Malaysia, her companies lost a lot of money and is losing a lot of money.

So, SPAD, as any husband who is scared of his wife would do, quickly ban Uber and ban Grabcar and raise prices of KTM and Prasarana.

You see, in Malaysia, there is no such thing as CONFLICT OF INTEREST.

All prices have to go UP because Albar’s wife is not happy with slow business.

All these prices is approved by SPAD so that crony companie scan untung more.

Don’t forget, besides Albar’s wife, ALL the licenses for companies running cabs and busses are all owned by UMNO big boys.

      Nobody can touch them la

Our Malaysian government also think that Malaysians are still living in Malaysia and paying tax. Therefore can increase the tax even further.

Another stupid statement by brainless people, I also can say food price hikes did not discourage people from eating. Public transport are not luxury items and demand/supply is inelastic. In non-economic words we do not have any choice but to continue using them no matter how expensive it is.

  • Honestly, what other alternatives are out there? Of course people are not discouraged to take public transportation when they are left without a choice; when prices for cars are too high to be affordable and not everyone may want to ride a motorcycle as an alternate mode of transportation.
