Mercedes-Benz E350e plug-in hybrid set for Q3 debut in Malaysia – CKD, expected to be just under RM400k

The introduction of the locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz E 200 Avantgarde, E 250 Avantgarde and E 250 Exclusive earlier today also saw an upcoming CKD E-Class variant being previewed. The E 350 e plug-in hybrid will join the local line-up later this year, with deliveries set to begin sometime in the third quarter.

When it arrives, it will join the C-Class hybrid variant, the C 350 e, as the company’s PHEV offering in the country, and will become as the range-topping model in the W213 E-Class line-up, taking over from the E 300.

Pricing wasn’t revealed, but Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s vice-president of marketing, Mark Raine, gave an indication of what to expect, stating that the car will be priced slightly under RM400k when it arrives. Last June, Raine had mentioned to paultan.org that there were plans to introduce the new E-Class hybrid as a successor to the W212 E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid.

The E 350 e is equipped with the M274 DE 20 AL 2.0 litre petrol unit as seen on the C 350 e, and has the same output of 208 hp and 350 Nm. There are however slight differences to its motor and total system output numbers.

Here, the electric motor is rated at 87 hp/440 Nm (80 hp/340 Nm on the C 350 e), and combined power output for the car is 281 hp and 550 Nm (275 hp and 600 Nm on the C 350 e).

The car’s high-voltage lithium-ion battery has a total capacity of 6.2 kWh (identical to the C 350 e), and in Europe, the recharge time quoted for the unit is 1.5 hours at a charge rate of 3.7 kW (16A/230V line) via a charging point or wallbox, or around three hours via a standard domestic power socket.

Performance numbers include a 33 km operating range in all-electric mode and a top speed of 130 km/h running on electric power alone. It does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.2 seconds and has a 210 km/h top speed.

The Malaysian-spec model will come equipped with an AMG Line exterior and interior. Kit will include 19-inch five-spoke AMG wheels, Multibeam LED headlights, a panoramic sliding glass roof and an Airmatic suspension.

As for interior equipment, items on the specifications list include Nappa leather upholstery, an AMG Sports steering wheel, a widescreen cockpit instrument cluster, pre-entry climate control, a Comand Online system as well as a Burmester high-end surround sound system.

why Merc(or any other MFG) locate the charging socket at rear?

its better to remain at same location as petrol tank lid as rear has higher risk of accident compared to front and it sure even lower from side impact, so as to petrol tank lid area….

Aiyoyor German engineers lah. The socket the at the back doesn’t mean the bataries are inside the bumper. Accident won’t damage the bataries.
Also if the circuit is so close to the petrol filling assembly, any fumes will be ignited if kutu or serranga were to bite the muruku wires. Dangerous lah dei.

But it’s the 1% that matters. It can never be a Merc.

Oh wait, the lesser C350e actually has 50 nm more torque than the bigger E350e (but a few horses short). That’s quite interesting. Is there a reason why the E’s motor makes less torque?

Because too much torque in the E-Class will give the uncles a heart attack……Usually driven by uncles.

  • Mercedes Malaysia is getting more greedy due to the increasing popularity of premium hybrids.

Even at top specs this should have been priced at no more than RM350k.

  • In the article it’s written top speed of 210kmh but in the brochure it’s written 250kmh. Am i mistaking something?
