The new Toyota Harrier is now being previewed in Malaysia – previously only sold in Japan, the premium SUV is arriving on our shores for the very first time through official channels, following in the footsteps of Singapore. The car on display is a Singaporean-spec 2.0 Turbo Premium G model, featuring a few spec changes compared to the car we’ll eventually get.
Aside from showing the car here, UMW Toyota Motor has also opened the order books and revealed pricing – and they’re very competitive indeed. The Harrier will be available in the latest facelifted form and in two variants, with the 2.0T Premium priced at RM238,000 and the range-topping 2.0T Luxury at RM259,900, both on-the-road without insurance. Included is an official five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.
Power comes from a new 8AR-FTS 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Lexus NX, producing 231 PS from 5,200 to 5,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 1,650 and 4,000 rpm – all sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. Toyota claims fuel consumption of 13 km per litre on the Japanese JC08 cycle, and there are also “performance” dampers to reduce roll and improve high-speed stability.
This engine is a big step up in performance over the previous powertrains still being sold on the grey market – a 151 PS/193 Nm 2.0 litre Valvematic naturally-aspirated mill with a CVT and a Hybrid model with a 152 PS/206 Nm 2.5 litre engine paired to two electric motors (front 143 PS/270 Nm, rear 68 PS/139 Nm).
Built on the Toyota New MC platform that also underpins the latest RAV4, the Harrier is no longer related to the Lexus RX, which has been spun off into a completely separate model. Dimensions include a length of 4,720 mm, a width of 1,835 mm and a height of 1,690 mm, along with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm.
Changes to the facelifted model include triple-projector LED headlights with sequential indicators, flanking a new upper grille design. There’s also a wider lower grille incorporating LED fog lights, vertical LED daytime running lights, red-tinted LED tail lights, a redesigned rear valence and a visible exhaust pipe with a chrome finisher, plus 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with a five-spoke turbine design.
On the inside, there’s new Ultrasuede and faux leather upholstery and carbon-weave metal trim; the Luxury variant gets Nappa leather and brushed aluminium not seen here. There’s also an electronic parking brake with an auto brake hold function, as well as a driver’s seat that slides back automatically to improve ingress and egress, both of which are new on the facelifted model.
Other features include a new height-adjustable powered tailgate, a panoramic sunroof and ventilated power-adjustable front seats with driver’s side memory (not found on this Singapore-spec show unit). These items are only available on the Luxury model.
We’ll also get plenty of safety equipment onboard, headlined by the standard-fit Toyota Safety Sense driver assists including Pre-Collision System (autonomous emergency braking), active cruise control and auto high beam. We’ll also get the full complement of seven airbags and Vehicle Stability Control.
And as with the Alphard and Vellfire sold here officially, the Harrier will be offered with a full official warranty (five-year, unlimited-mileage coverage) and will come with locally-adapted infotainment system and switchgear. Singaporean distributor Borneo Motors set the precedent for this when it launched the car in the island nation in July. Excited? So are we.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.

CBU dapat 2 bijik boyue..
It will sell like hot cakes no doubt and together with chr and new camry definitely unw toyota will return to its glory…watch out honda…your service sucks and your cars are mostly for third world countries…we want global cars…cheers
Just add a bit more, can buy a brand new GLC200. That is real class. You will be owning a Mercedes.
RM260k is crazy pricing. Tak masuk akal. The guys at UMW and their marketing team really have no brains.
You pay RM260k to get Malaysia’s No 1 stolen car. Everywhere you park, you heart also sakit. You don’t know when you go back, whether the Harrier is there or not
in Australia this Harrier same price range like CRV, Tiguan and Xtrail.
You are lying….. Please provide proof that Toyota Australia is officially selling the Toyota Harrier in Australia, and the price range.
Pls read the previous article. The link is even given above.
Add another RM7k and u can have Merc GLA 250…
different segment, huge difference in size and practicality
Add another 1k you can get Ferrari… Duhh!
There must someone like this.
compare apple with apple laa.. betul la harrier compare dengan gla (should be glc) in term of suv.. kau tetiba nak masuk ferrari dah kenapaa.. go compare with lambo laa.. aiyaa
dia sarkastik la bedol
should buy GLC instead of GLA laa.. different segment laa. aku yg perempuan ni pun tahu.
Top up 30k can buy 7 seaters CX9 too…lol
big wheels, big wheel arches, big ground clearance but just 2WD?
98% of SUV owners never drove them off the road. and if you worry about tractions in the wet, most of these SUVs are equipped with alldisc brakes, ABS, traction control and stability control.
This is going to sell like super hot cakes
nope…people wont fool to pay over 230K price to get a Toyo (it’s not Lexus!)
I would rather get a X3/GLC200 pre-reg car if needed SUV for this price range. BMW and Benz is laughing.
Or if i need a new car, this price range LOTS of selection from German and the long awaited Volvo XC60 / XC40.
Really then explain why there are so many harriers on the road despite being a recond model and sold above 200k….definitely this brand new model brought in by umw toyota and priced slightly above the recond model will sell like hot cakes…glc is so dull and boring…better lexus nx…more class
This Harrier i can only buy for my mother in law. So dull and boring design!
Nope, there is not a lot of this model of harrier compare to the previous Harrier (Lexus RX) which is bigger .
UMW jz killed off grey harrier importers. Hoorayy
Expensive choice.
hopefully this will make the AP cars drop more price :). maybe 2014 model selling @ 100k?
recon salesman cry
oh come on! fake carbon fibre?
I remember that the Toyota Previa brought into Malaysia lacked a lot of specification. Is this the case with this? (i can’t tell)
Recon model: 2.0L NA 151bhp, 1 year recon seller warranty, year 2015, RM200k+, and it already sells so well that you see so many on the road.
UMW model: 2.0 Turbo 231bhp, 5 years UMW Toyota FULL warranty with the best after sales service in the market, brand new 2018 facelifted model. Premium model RM238k, Luxury model RM259K with all the goodies, it will definitely sell like Super HOT Cakes.
Look like copy renault koleos
XC60 just need to launch at RM250K…this Harrier will be history..
My grandma just paid 270k for brand new Lexus NX200t… which is basically the same car but lexus brand!! Which means more luxury inside. How can UMW set the same price for a toyota? I dont get it. Hello UMW where is the logic?
BMW X1 vs Harrier…both are 230K…which one better to buy?
your nick already call BMW which one do u think?
If u dont care about badge, of coz harrier is miles better in every way
the pricing strategy by UMW is very funny…in singapore this Harrier turbo is relatively cheaper compared to CR-V 1.5 turbo and CX-5 2.5L..
Singapore cars are all Fully imported (known as CBU in Malaysia), so all cars pay Full Import Tax or Customs duty in Singapore. In Malaysia, we have CBU and CKD cars, eventhough CBU and CKD cars have the same Local Excise duty tax rate depending engine capacity. The main cost difference between CBU and CKD cars is the Import duty rate, CKD cars is 0%, CBU cars is 30% across the board (MFN countries).
So, if you take the CKD Honda CRV 1.5T highest spec price in Malaysia, its RM168K + 30% = RM219K (without insurance).
Rubbish bro… Ckd mercs and cbu mercs c class only 3k difference… Just like many other cars… Pls check your facts
http://www.maa.org.my/pdf/duties_taxes_on_motor_vehicles.pdf
Anyway, can you provide proof that Merc C class CBU and CKD price difference is only RM3K? Also please provide proof that the so called proof of “Just like other cars” please.
UMW, the head unit looks so “after market”, makes the whole interior down graded. Please laaaa… the owner will b seeing this everytime driving, please spend effort on this, the Japanese model head unit matching the interior nicely. The finishing and details makes the different, its require people with the right attitude to achieve it, Arrogant no….
Why spent 200k++ while you can get a Forester. Interior is not on par with 200k suv.
The name of the color please?
