It emerged last week that Toyota has trademarked the Yaris and 86 GR names for use in European markets, hinting of an impending launch in the continent. Now, Toyota in Spain has released a teaser for a “GT86 by Toyota Gazoo Racing” with the caption “It’s all a matter of passion for speed.”
Taking its name from Toyota’s Gazoo Racing racing division, the GR brand adds a number of performance parts that go beyond the GR Sport’s basic bodykit and suspension upgrades. In Japan, the 86 GR receives 17-inch Rays alloys, Recaro seats, a Torsen limited-slip differential and Brembo brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear callipers.
All these go on top of the GR Sport package for the sports car, which consist of a bodykit, Sachs dampers and a few other aesthetic and mechanical tweaks. Typically, GR and GR Sport models don’t come with any extra power – that’s reserved for the top tier GRMN versions, so expect the standard 205 PS 2.0 litre flat-four, with six-speed manual and automatic transmission options. No turbo, of course.
