Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) has officially launched the 2019 Ford Ranger facelift range in Malaysia – it’s the second refresh for the T6, the first being back in 2015, but this revision looks to be more comprehensive, introducing a new powertrain and transmission as part of its package update.
The local Ranger line-up will consist of the five core models – four being High Rider regulation units, the XL, XLT, Wildtrak and a new XLT+ variant, as well as the Ranger Raptor, which will be officially launched at KLIMS 2018 but is being previewed at the Ranger launch.
Variant-wise, the baseline unit is the single-cab 2.2L XL Manual, and this is followed by the 2.2L XL Manual and Automatic in double-cab form. Next up are the 2.2L XLT Manual and Auto, which are better equipped versions.
Both the XL and XLT are equipped with the 2.2L TDCi VGT Puma engine, which offers 160 PS and 385 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 2,600 rpm. The unit is new to the XL, which previously was equipped with the non-VGT 123 hp and 370 Nm 2.2 litre. No change in transmission options, the choices being a six-speed Getrag MT82 manual or 6R80 automatic gearbox.
The mechanical buzz starts with the XLT+, which is the only non Wildtrak/Raptor variant to get the automaker’s new EcoBlue mill. The Panther is available in two output states of tune – on the XLT+, it’s seen in 2.0L Si-Turbo single turbo form, where it pushes out 180 PS and 420 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. The XLT+ is only available in automatic guise, and here, the new engine also gets a fresh partnering transmission, a Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic gearbox with SelectShift manual override.
Next is the Wildtrak, which drops the 3.2 litre previously seen up to the first facelift. The Wildtrak comes with two options. The first is a 2.0L Wildtrak 4×2, equipped with the above-mentioned 2.0L Si-Turbo engine. It also features rear-wheel drive, and is the only version in the entire model line-up to have that configuration.
The top model in the standard range is the 2.0L Wildtrak 4×4, which gets the EcoBlue Bi-Turbo unit. Here, the unit offers 213 PS and 500 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,000 rpm. Again, only a single transmission choice, the 10-speed auto. In total, Ranger Raptor aside, there are eight variants with two engines (and three outputs) in the standard line-up.
Kit-wise, the 2018 Ranger facelift brings some new toys to the truck segment – it’s the first in class to offer forward collision warning (audible warning, pre-charges the brakes and prepares brake assist), autonomous emergency braking (AEB detects pedestrians and vehicles in front, will auto brake if no action is taken), lane departure warning (vibrates steering, with lane keeping aid) and adaptive cruise control.
Also unique to the class are semi-automatic parallel parking (scans for spots, steers itself), though all these are only available in the 2.0L Wildtrak 4×4. Elsewhere, the Ranger also now comes with an Easy Lift Tailgate, which incorporates a torsion bar to make lifting and lowering the tailgate easier. The feature is available from the XLT+.
In terms of standard equipment, the Ranger XL comes with halogen complex surface reflector headlamps, front and rear fog lamps, cruise control, cargo LED light, manual air-conditioning, 16-inch wheels, fabric seats as well as a SYNC 1 infotainment system with a 4.2-inch screen and four speakers, among other things.
The XLT adds on automatic halogen projector headlamps, auto rain sensing wipers, premium fabric seats, a reverse camera, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sport bar, two additional speakers to the audio system and ups the wheels to 17-inch units.
The XLT+ is where the jump in equipment really starts. This one gets automatic HID projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, the Easy Lift tailgate, dual-zone auto air-conditioning, leather seats, keyless entry/push start, Ford MyKey, dual four-inch screens in the instrument panel as well as a SYNC 3 system with an eight-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, voice control, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also bumps up the wheel size to 18-inches.
The Wildtrak, aside from its specific exterior styling cues, adds on in the 4×2 variant Wildtrak premium leather seats, LED front foglamps, a 230 volt AC power outlet in the cabin, a 12 volt socket in the cargo bed, front parking sensors, an e-locking differential, a cooled console and power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Safety-wise, the Ranger comes with two airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC as standard across the range, with the Wildtraks adding on side and curtain airbags to make it six (plus the active safety suite on the top 4×4). As for body colours, the XLs can be had in Cool White, Meteor Grey and Aluminium Metallic.
The latter is also on the XLT colour list, along with Lightning Blue, Frozen White, Magnetic and Absolute Black. The Wildtraks, meanwhile, are available in the latter three colours, plus a signature Saber orange shade.
The on-the-road pricing without insurance of the Ranger line-up is:

It added that the first 888 buyers who register their Ranger – up to December 31 – will receive an electrical goods voucher worth RM1,000.

Kns still two airbags in 2018
Get the Wildtrak 6airbags, 2.0L Bi-Turbo with 213 PS/500 Nm.
At least the range topper has FCW, AEB, ACC and LKA. Many premium cars out there *ehem BMW* *ehem Audi* still do not have active safety features. Not to mention a 10 Speed auto too! Plus it’s quite impressive given its price range. I’m surprised because it seems like almost every car that’s specced for our market seems to get very low specs, but Ford is generous enough to bring active safety features, a 10 speed auto and their new twin turbo diesel.
We must thank Ranger for giving us high safety spec with VSC in trucks.
Because of Ranger only, Hilux also had to follow giving safety spec.
Sadly, they only give good safety spec in the high end Hilux models.
Greedy GLC UMW is very stingy and don’t care for the safety of the rakyat. Bad habits brought about from the previous corrupted Government who did not care about the safety of the rakyat.
Ford Malaysia is by Sime Darby, a GLC as well. And I recalled you were whacking Ford branding here. So which story of yours is true now? Suffering from schizophrenia or something?
In 2018, you cannot give people just 2 airbags. Why car companies give 2 airbags? They do so because they do not care about your life.
To make matters worse, Ford is owned by Sime Darby, a GLC. So, when Ford gives you more airbags, they will untung less. Which means Government will untung less.
This is why in other countries, Governments stay neutral and refuse to have a stake in car companies to remain neutral. The Government themselves will sue the car company when the car company gives the rakyat low safety spec like 2 airbags
IN CHINA MOST OF THE GIANT CAR COMPANY OWNED BY CHINA GOVERNMENT MEHH..
SO DONT TALK POLITICs HERE LORR..
TALK CAR ONLY LORR..
PLEASE DO MORE RESEARCH

Dear Ford. Your previous model equip with 2.2L and 6spd have so many issue especially gearbox. Now you intro additional 4spd equal to 10spd some more. Does it really reliable? Im In Sarawak here seldom see people buying Ford Ranger, but more people choose T.Hilux(1st), M.Triton(2nd) and I.D-Max(3rd). All these 3 models always seen OTR.
the Ranger is for hipsters only.. not reliable & practical at all.. so it only wins for its rugged looks..
Toyota Hilux is still the top pick
INDEED yes
Sad to say tat most drivers of pickup 4×4 are likenreally really really reckless otr lap to tailgate and intimidate oter cars..
Yep, this is really true. 4×4 and also those Alphard/vellfire/g.starex. Did they think they are driving an invincible armoured vehicle?
Would like to trade in my 2016 2.2 XLT Auto…any takers??
Really need the climate control!!
Abesla Hilux! Toyota boleh bungkus!
2.0L, 180PS, RWD… Calls itself a ‘Wildtrack’ …. Nonsense
True. Should call it ‘WildTread’ instead since without the 4×4 , you lose alot of traction with so much torque.
Don’t like the small & digital tachometer
More power means more naik kepala the pickup driver (90% of them) will be hence the increased percentage of innocent casualities by these killer machine in the future. Feel free to bash me dear 4×4 drivers, i had enough of you guys who always perasan bagus & feel like you are the king of the road but the fact is just you are only a coward hiding in your so called big machine.
WOW..WOW..WOW
– 10 SPEED PICK-UP TRUCK!

THINKING OF GETTING ONE BUT FORD NEED TO CONTINUE IMPROVE PUBLIC PERCEPTION :|
Hi,
I think I might be the FIRST CASUALTY of Ford Ranger XLT Plus 2.0 EARLY GEARBOX FAILURE.
The car broke down a few days ago at night on my way back from Johor Bahru, 2 days before my appointment date for 1st service
The engine suddenly lost power & went dead every time I put the gear to D or R.
Fyi, I own the car less than 6 months & the mileages registered less than 10k km when it broke down.
I towed it to Ford Service Center at Taman Kencana for inspection.
The gear box was removed & taken down.
Debris of metal found in the gear box fan.
The troubleshooting is at time frustrating & very slow because the service center has to report findings back to HQ and troubleshooting action will be carry out based on the advice or instruction from technical team in HQ.
Ford Service Center cannot tell me exactly when my car will be ready or whether i will get a new gear box.
My confident level on Ford Ranger XLT Plus performance really goes down.
For other Ford owner of similar car out there please be aware the potential risk.
It may also happen to you soon.
I hope I am the only victim of the gear box failure.
Disappointed Customer.
