Mercedes-AMG has begun teasing the arrival of the new A 45, which will take its spot above the A 35 4Matic launched in September, offering even higher levels of performance.
To showcase some of the car’s capabilities, the company released this unconventional Christmas video with a lot of drifting involved. There has been a lot of rumours that the A 45 will come with an all-wheel drive system which can operate purely as a rear-wheel drive when put into a dedicated drift mode.
This functionality is reminiscent of what you’ll find in the E 63 S 4Matic and GT 4-Door Coupe, and the manoeuvres performed in the video certainly seem to indicate a strong rear-wheel drive tendency with the car.
Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers had previously stated the A 45 will pack a new 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder with more than 395 hp and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
In terms of looks, the car in the video gets some colourful camouflage and an identical rear wing from the A 35 but it set apart by its Panamericana grille and four circular exhaust tips.

Yes, finally. A Mercedes FWD platform that can drift. This will surely make the good people at BMW M cringe cos they said they will never make an M car out of a FWD BMW. To be honest, I agree with BMW M. But times, they are a changing. And newer buyers now care more about the badge, then whether it’s powering the front or rear wheels. Over to you M.
congrats…ur a35 amg is useless now
