UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) officially launched the Toyota Yaris yesterday night, and they had a surprise in store. Not Janna Nick, because the cute face of the Yaris had to be there, but a car under wraps. We were guessing “TRD Sportivo” but it didn’t turn out that way.
After the Yaris ambassador drove out the main car on stage, she proceeded to pull the wraps off a special Yaris made for her. The car you see here is the Toyota Yaris Janna Nick Edition, a customised one-off for the actress, singer and feisty Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Challenge promotional class racer.
Based on the range-topping Yaris 1.5G, you can see that Janna’s car was originally in the model’s signature Citrus Mica Metallic colour, but with most of the body wrapped in a black-red combo. There’s more than one shade of red too; coupled with the doors in their original colour, it makes for a distinctive car that can be spotted from a mile away.
The car you see here comes with the optional aerokit that UMWT sells, comprising of front/rear bumper extensions, side skirts and a rear spoiler. What’s not for sale at the showrooms are the original TRD 17-inch alloys wrapped with 205/45 Toyo Proxes T1R rubber. And Janna Nick’s signature on the lower front doors, of course.
The hatchback sister of the B-segment Toyota Vios comes with the same 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i engine as the sedan, with 107 PS and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The 2NR-FE DOHC unit is paired to a CVT automatic gearbox with seven virtual ratios, which UMWT calls Sport Sequential Shiftmatic Mode.
Three trim levels – J, E and G – are available. The base J spec comes with halogen reflector headlamps with follow-me-home function, LED daytime running lamps, 15-inch rims with 185/60 tyres, door visors, powered wing mirrors, keyless entry and push start, black fabric seats with blue stitching, illuminated scuff plates and a CD player with MP3/USB/AUX/Bluetooth connections.
One level up is the mid spec E, which adds on a fair bit. 16-inch rims with 195/50 tyres, projector headlamps, front fog lamps, LED rear combination lamps, wing mirror turn signals, auto fold and retractable wing mirrors, acoustic windshield, a multi-info display, steering audio/Bluetooth buttons, 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor, Digital Video Recorder (dashcam), a 6.8-inch touchscreen DVD head unit with USB mirroring, security/solar film and a Drive Mode switch (Sport and Eco modes) are all standard.
The top G spec further adds on rear disc brakes, chrome outer door handles, Optitron meter panel with 4.3-inch TFT multi-info display, leather on the steering/gear knob, MID steering buttons, auto air con (single zone) and six speakers (from four).
For safety equipment, the Yaris comes with seven airbags (dual front, side, curtain, driver’s knee), VSC, ABS/EBD/BA and auto door locks as standard. E and G spec cars add on the Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).
Prices for the CKD Yaris start from RM70,888 for the J, rising to RM76,888 for the E and RM83,888 for the top G, on-the-road without insurance. For detailed specs and to compare the Yaris with the Honda Jazz, visit CarBase.my.

When it can’t be anymore hideous, that paintjob took it to another level of fugly.
Well done Toyota! You have just redefined the meaning of ugly.
Toyota Yaris most safest in the segment. 7 Airbags, VSC, ABS/EBD/BA, BSM with RCTA, DVR with Sport Sequential Shiftmatic Mode.
Useless if the design looks horrible. Millenials will not going to buy car with that kind of design because pipu will laugh at them
Laku like hotcakes! Toyota always make a reliable car, game changing design and most importantly, high RV.
For Toyota, game changing=stomach churning design?
Janna Nick my fave ❤ ❤ ❤
Adui it’s just wrapping la and what a lousy combo of colours! Since she races in the Vios challenge and it’s a one off car they should have spec up the car with proper TRD racing parts la for goodness sake.

She’s an upcoming artist.. I woudnt bother to look at the fugly car if she wasnt posing next to it..
I have to hand Toyota Malaysia for the “Ugliest Color Combo For a Car” award. Ever. You guys must be color blind!
A quick search on the internet would easily give you the best color combination options. Do some homework la.
