It’s the stalwart of the B-segment sedan market, and now, there’s a new one. Yes, the 2019 Toyota Vios has just been launched in Malaysia – having been previewed at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) last November – offering more kit and a whole new look.
But first, we’re gonna give you what you’ve all been waiting for, the prices. The new Vios keeps the pricing that was originally estimated, with the base 1.5J auto coming in at RM77,200 – the manual variant, which made the Vios the last holdout of the row-your-own gearbox, has unfortunately been dropped from the list.
The mid-range E variant retails at RM81,200 and the top-spec G rounds off the range at RM87,300, meaning that all variants cost almost exactly the same as before. All prices are on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.
With that out of the way, what exactly is new on this Vios? Well, for a start, it gets a radical front end design that is shared with the Yaris hatchback, with a slim upper grille and sharper headlights paired to a massive lower grille with integrated LED daytime running lights. The fog lights are housed in vertical enclosures that flank the said grille, and the end result is a look that will surely divide opinion.
Moving over to the side, there’s a new shoulder line that starts aft from the front wheels and stretches all the way to the rear deck, while another line crosses the door handles towards the tail lights. The beltline also sweeps up more elegantly than before, while at the rear, the LED tail lights are wider and shapelier than on the outgoing model, lending the car a broader appearance.
The interior is also carried over from the Yaris, with faux stitching and a protruding centre console not unlike that of the Lexus NX, plus a steering wheel from the Corolla Altis. Power comes from a carryover 2NR-FE 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine, making 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. This mill – paired to a CVT with a seven-speed Shiftmatic mode – was introduced on the Vios in 2016.
Standard kit includes reflector halogen headlights with a follow-me-home function, 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push-button start, fabric seats, a drive mode switch with Eco and Sport modes, automatic air-conditioning, illuminated door sill scuff plates, front footwell illumination, two rear USB ports, rear parking sensors and a CD/radio head unit with Bluetooth and four speakers.
The mid-spec E adds LED tail lights, fog lights, auto-fold door mirror with indicators, an acoustic glass windscreen, 60:40 split-folding rear seats with a centre armrest, premium solar and security tint, a multifunction steering wheel and a DVD-AVX infotainment system with a 360-degree camera system and a front digital video recorder (i.e. dashcam).
Opting for the top-spec G gives you projector headlights, 16-inch alloys, leather on the seats, steering wheel, gearknob and front armrest, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, paddle shifters, an Optitron instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch multi-info display, six speakers and front parking sensors.
Safety-wise, all models get seven airbags (including one for the driver’s knees), ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control and rear ISOFIX child seat anchors, with the E and G variants also getting a blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.
Options include a RM2,160 DVD-AVX system and RM2,120 premium solar and security tint for the J variant, a RM350 a rear digital video recorder and a RM2,800 aerokit that you see here, which adds a front grille garnish, front, side and rear skirting and a bootlid spoiler.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with myTukar.
Time for john to sell roti john at pasar malam because this is the real game changer, HABISLA PROTON!
You said game changer, but Honda City will still outsell the Vios. So, what exactly will change? Time for you to change job due to poor sales.
Honda City Sales is getting poorer nowadays due to terrible service quality. Toyota Vios will definitely outsell Honda City.
Preve, Persona and even Saga can close shop now. Already sales are so bad, now with this car coming in, habis lah Proton completely
Answer the following question
1)The real game changer! Habisla…
A. Honda
B. Nissan
C. Mitsubishi
D. Proton
E. KIA
Explaination:
Smart people choose D and also D is the correct answer. People who choose D have the potential to enter Harvard University!
Feel so shy. So Malu
Nobody will want vios anymore since it leads to CX-5 going into the sea. Bad karma on this car.
That accident is because of the driver, not the car.
Millions of the rakyat testify that the Vios is a safe and reliable car
Bad joke…
Better topup a bit and get Proton X70
Dude…. What game changer…. City and even Myvi already used full Led headlights for high variant… And this vios keep soldier on with ageing projector headlight like in Axia low spec…. Come on Toyota…. You can do better… Oops.. Sorry Toyota Buttkisser… The design is considerable… But halogen projector??????? Really???
Apart from exterior so called ugly looks, can anyone fault Toyota 20 yrs down the road ,regards reliability ? The only BIG FAULT is UMW’s inflated super duper hyper inflation pricing. And to protect 3 national cars(Protiga soon), the misery of car buyers are compounded, by allowing UMW to sell vios at such high price.
Preve and Iriz look not bad exterior wise but stocks are piling up.They cant sell, due to a jurassic engine and punch cvt gearbox.
In USA,GM and Chrysler cars are heavily criticised by ang moh as being unreliable due to malfunctioning auto transmission .So u want cantik molek, sui sui or reliability?

It now got the same engine 2NR-FE 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i, as Myvi & Aruz ?
Yup. The same fuel guzzling ancient dinosar engine.
Killing car, no thanks
Yes, it is the same award-winning engine sold worldwide. MILLIONS of people have trust in the quality of the engine.
Not like the X70, features are good but engine no one knows about it
Habis la Proton after this. The all-new-but-derived-from-old-model Vios is really a game changer. Can also terbang one.
What award did it win other than being the most outdated engine still in use? Or is that another one of your fake news?
2NR-FE for another 10? 20 yrs? there U go …
Malaysian dunno what is that about, they just know Toyota engine. Therefore, Toyota can used that engine until next century with different shell and higher price. Furthermore Malaysian willing to pay that money to own Toyota.
The Anti Toyota troll is hiding today. So scared to show his face.
Japanese cars got RV. Proton got no RV. China cars worse….ZERO RV
People would rather buy an award-winning reliable Japanese car over a Proton with no credibility
You are like all Proton fanboys. They always say nobody buys Perodua but every year Perodua sales is 5X more than Proton sales
Oh btw, Toyota sold more vehicles than Proton the whole of last year!
I see that basher easily triggered, spending his whole day downliking others comments.
Better for those basher fools to go to circus and become a clown to entertain people with their stupidity rather than fooling themselves in here.
Toyota salesmen so free at showroom.
Are you any different?
Only bored salesmen has so much free time to downlike others. Why not point to the resident troll?

Gear stick like datsun 120Y
Habislah preve…
Habislah Kunta Kinte! This Vios will be eveb less popular than the old model. Time to change job.
The most suitable job for Kunta Kinte I can think is applying at Cirus to become a clown as Kunta Kinte always creating many fake dupes using peculiar names and talking rubbish fooling himself.
Dude… Preve no more longer sells… Say it to Honda.. Say.. City
Preve no longer on sale. Or is this another fake news?
Persona and Vios sales volume are same quantity for last year.
Still no hybrid variant. We been waiting for hybrid vios since 2004, until now not yet come. Jepunis lords still sleeping.
2004 got Hybrid? You sure about this? Or is this another fake news?
Toyota got hybrid tech since 2001. Still waiting for Vios hybrid for 18 years. Even my baby back then alredi can drive car but Vios hybrid still cannot see. Meanwhile Honda has City hybrid. Toyota lords still sleeping.
Toyota never said they will make a Vios hybrid.
Proton said they will make a EV hybrid car some years back. Sampai hari ni tak de nampak pun
For those who never learn how to read, here u go https://paultan.org/2015/09/10/proton-iriz-ev-300-km-electric-car-on-display-at-igem/
what do you expect from a cybertrooper… dedak has make him forgetful and type fake news
Its so ugly……..I cant believe that it can be this ugly!
Its like they ran out of ideas and mismatched everything….
Why cant they design it like the Italian, German or American cars?
this model is designed for developing & 3rd world country la.. so what u expect?
Same as your Proton
Its so boring……..I cant believe that it can be this boring!
Its like they ran out of ideas and rebadged everything….
Why cant they design cars like the Italian, German,Japan or American carmakers?
Abesla Vios! The exterior is weird, the interior is outdated and cheap, the specs looks nice on paper but upon closer scrutiny, it lacks rear seat space due to unchanged chassis, lacks rear aircon vents, lacks LED headlights, lacks front parking sensors except G, and worse no Hybrid variant.
Still using Halogen headlamps? Myvi already using LED. Come on Toyota!
Aruz better buy
No LED headlights? I’ll pass
Wait few months later for X50 with price RM77k – RM87k.
Only China is clever to compete with Toyota. This is why Proton has got China brains now. They also will come out with a good seller soon.
Dude… What X50???? It’s not even same segment….
Malaysian always compare with price what? Nothing wrong with that.
Habislah they lost the dugong identity
Dugong identity was replaced by keli identity, now its replaced by alien joker identity.
Excuse me … it’s ketupat.
So many triangles
I dunno, still looks like a dugong wat
Does the high variant have turbo?
No turbos – all models get the same NA engine.
Yes! All models get the same dinosaur junk engine
I am surprised they did not recycle the dinosaur ‘tested and proven’ 4 speed auto with super ECT transmission.
i dont like this car but its actually pretty decent in specs compared to the past few vios
Previos Vios kosong specs with overpriced.
This new vios .. tengok pun tak stim larr .. aiyo
Guys, while pre-collision warning and lane departure warning was listed on the brochures and at KLIMS, i think UMW has removed this feature from the website….. i hope i am wrong….
Coz by doing so it means that the MyVi, Aruz and Rush get these 2 functions and not the Vios….
Dear UMW, please, for your sake, prove me wrong.
Nope, no autonomous emergency braking I’m afraid. The collision warning and lane departure warning features are within the front digital video recorder (dash cam).
No S variant? Patut la sampai RM87k je
honda city, jazz, city hybrid, jazz hybrid and civic turbo are all 1.5 and drivers of these cars can start to smirk as they can outrun even the latest vios.
107hp and 140nm torque is such a shame at this age and time.
https://www.carbase.my/car-comparison?id=Ku0WBvY16R,HD8jmeHpBX,
from dugong , flowerhorn , now ikan keli (catfish)
the latest one is not as good looking as the previous one , but wayy better equipped, especially on safety side of things
some may prefer the city more grown up looks inside and outside and also the rear air conditioning vents
vios now stands toe to toe with its arch rival, and u cant go wrong with either one
vios looks good in red tho, but the previous red one in G trim, looks the best
Seriously with all this equipment? Habisla City no front parking sensor. Hit curbs here and there
Only women drivers tend to hit curbs here and there, hence the Vios is a good choice for them, but even with the sensors here and there also they hit curbs. We men doesn’t need any sensors to help us cause we never hit curbs.
“We never hit curbs.”
Yeah, only women.
seriously bro. Only women who hit the curbs? maybe you should go out more frequent cause in my opinion there’s more women who can drive like a pro. And there are men who can’t drive at all. Just saying. No offence bro.
Picanto/Myvi are better equipped than this overpriced tin can.
What is the point to have J spec..
If buying J spec.. then go to get tinted elsewhere.. add on touch screen + 360 camera.. price comes very close to E spec.. while E spec comes with more goodies original from UMW
No cruise control – tq, next.
Proton fan boy
In before:
All hail the new Godcar.
Mati lah X70
Toyota with Japanese technology.
Finally the God car is here!
Fake john, no God car in the world.
Yes there is. This car will easy take pipu to see God. Thats what I meant.
The car’s front and rear designs do not match at all!!
Hideous overdone front
Simple elegant back
It’s as if 2 different teams design the car and end of the day, Toyota mix and match them.
Better buy Honda City than this catfish.
In thailand this is called the “yaris ativ”, which according to a thai friend of mine is a crappier version of a vios. The price for it starts at only 479k bahts (rm62000) in thailand.
if not mistaken still used 1.3L engine.
Yaris ativ used 1.2 engine thats why only 62k…your friend didnt tell you??
I also went Thailand. Shocked at Thailand Toyota. Our country vios is there called Yaris ATIV. And Thailand VIOS looking great. Why UMW doing like this to us?
Good job Toyota! It’s been a long long time since your spec is meeting the asking price. Expect higher marker share with the vios.
Exterior already so-so ok, but the interior dashboard looks so cheap like China car in the early 2000s or like China made stereo in early 2010s..
Perodua plss rebadge this an name it as paus
its just facelift right????? this ultraman version…
Why no j spec? Remove air bags, ebd, abs, vsc, hill assist, and sell 60k. My skills out do all these junks
Toyota try too hard to compete with H. They throw everything inside as cosmetic to up its game. I felt the new Vios is overwhelming with such design infront. Not very attractive compare to origin.
freaky ugly front…
but boy racer will love it, slap a TRD sticker on it
These days, Hyundai can design better looking cars than Toyota.
I’m the one..please buy me…syok oooo
Habislah Perodua Myvi! Smarter people will sure buy Toyota Vios over Perodua Myvi even though it is much more expensive because Toyota Vios has 7 airbags as standard whereas the Myvi has only 4 airbags and no hill start on 1.3 variants. What even worse, Perodua is using the dinosaur 4-speed auto which many feel boring and useless unlike the Toyota Vios’s 7-speed CVT although both are using the same engine. In a nutshell, Toyota Vios is better buy than Perodua Myvi. So that is
why YB Kunta Kinte and John Minum Teh 8X are hiding like hantu.
Which plant is this Vios from?
Junk car old engine old technology and some poor Malaysian still hard up for this 1/2 past 6 car hahaha :-)
Which is better?
Like – Toyota Vios
Dislike – Honda City
Comment – Others
This Vios makes the Dugong Vios look good.
I m still driving my 1st generation Vios since 2004 for both long and short distance. Mileage clocking 250k++ and the engine still goods and excellent. It’s the most reliable car that I’ve driven till now since young!
