2019 Renault Megane RS 280 Cup EDC laps Sepang International Circuit in two minutes and 38 seconds

TC Euro Cars (TCEC) recently held the Renault Sport Track Day at the Sepang International Circuit, which provided 30 owners the opportunity to test their skills and performance of their Renault Sport cars.

Prior to the start of the night session, the company took the opportunity to unleash the latest Renault Megane RS 280 Cup EDC to see just how fast the hot hatch can lap the circuit.

The result? Well, the new Megane RS in stock form with Yokohama AD08R tyres managed to clock a time of two minutes and 38 seconds, which is an improvement over the previous best time set by the previous-generation Megane RS 265 Cup by a whole three seconds.

The current Megane RS 280 Cup on sale holds several advantages over its predecessor, as its 1.8 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 280 PS (276 hp) and 390 Nm of torque compared to the RS 265 Cup’s larger 2.0 litre turbo-four with 265 PS (261 hp) and 360 Nm.

Additionally, it packs Renault’s 4Control four-wheel steering system for improved cornering efficiency as well as rally-style four hydraulic compression bump stops for better handling. For the EDC-equipped model, Multi-Change Down and launch control functions are available in Sport and Race modes, the former allowing drivers to downshift by several gears by holding down the left-hand shift paddle.

While the Renault Sport Track Day is focused on driving performance, safety remains paramount, as only experienced drivers were allowed to drive on the track by themselves, with first-time track drivers being accompanied by a professional instructor.

This provides a safe environment for owners to challenge themselves by continuously trying to set quicker lap times. The event also gave participants the chance to experience the track capabilities of the new Megane RS 280 Cup, as they were offered taxi rides with professional drivers.
