A90 Toyota GR Supra launched in Thailand – RM690k

Previewed in March this year, the A90 Toyota GR Supra has been officially launched in Thailand. The fifth-generation sports car is available there in the highest RZ spec, with an introductory price of 4.999 million baht (RM690,773). Toyota is including the GR Service Package with free service for three years or 60,000 km.

The CBU import from Austria – the Supra rolls off Magna Steyr’s Graz plant alongside its G29 BMW Z4 platform sister – was launched in Malaysia in September, in the same high spec for RM568,000 on-the-road without insurance.

Like us, Thailand gets the Supra with the most powerful engine available, which is a 3.0 litre turbocharged straight-six with 340 PS and 500 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 4,500 rpm.

The BMW B58B30 engine, as used in the Z4 M40i, is mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, channeling drive to the rear axle. The A90 does 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds and top speed is capped at 250 km/h.

The Thai RZ’s kit list isn’t fully confirmed yet, but it should be similar to what UMW Toyota Motor is offering here. We get 19-inch wheels (with 255/35 front and 275/35 rear Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres), eight-way powered seats with driver’s side memory, leather dual-zone climate control, Toyota Supra Connect infotainment (8.8-inch touchscreen, iDrive controller, 12-speaker JBL sound system) and a head-up display.

Safety kit includes seven airbags and a driver assist pack that has Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Adaptive High Beam System, Rear-end Collision Warning, Speed Limit Info, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

But then Toyota reliability goes out the window. In that case, why buy the Japanese clone and not the German original?

You can find the explanation on youtube. You think toyota dont know how to make straight six? One of the best was toyota’s own 1jz and 2jz engines.. while for 4 cylinder.. toyota has the infamous 5S GTE in celica GT4 and caldina GT4 and the hot BEAMS in altezza 2.0 (japan only).

      The reason is

      1. The name and model supra is hot after movie fast n furious.
      2. Toyota had long closed the plant making 6 cylinder engines.
      3. If toyota decided to do new engine it will take additional 2 years at least and by the time its ready, the supra fever is over.

The question that you should ask yourself… Why and how BMW agreed to accept the platform sharing program. That means toyota is one special company in its eyes..

So where is that joker who keeps saying Malaysia car prices are the most expensive in the world? I hope he don’t come here and lie again.
