Geely KX11 revealed in leaked pix; specs confirm 2.0T

Geely’s new flagship SUV, the KX11, has already been revealed in a few shadowy images, but China’s Auto Market Online has published some leaked photos that give us a better (if slightly low-resolution) look. The seven-seater crossover will ride on the Compact Modular Platform (CMA) jointly developed with Volvo, which also underpins the Xingyue, Xingrui/Preface and Volvo XC40.

But doesn’t the Chinese carmaker already have a three-row crossover in its lineup, you ask? Yes, but the Haoyue/Okavango is based on the Jiaji MPV and is thus cheaper to build, making it particularly suited for developing markets in regions such as Southeast Asia. One notable difference is that the KX11 is likely to ride on independent rear suspension, whereas the Haoyue utilises a more rudimentary torsion beam.

The KX11’s more upmarket nature is reflected in the exterior styling, which cribs more than a few design cues from the Xingrui. The signature “expanding cosmos” grille has been, ahem, expanded towards the edges, making space for a set of vertical slats. Framing this grille are the slim L-shaped headlights and a bone-shaped air intake that is mostly shielded by horizontal slats, enhanced by some tasteful chrome trim.

Also like the Xingrui, the KX11’s shoulder line runs straight from head- to taillight, dispensing with Geely’s hitherto trademark front fender bulge. The squared-off arches hide wheel sizes that range from 18 to a whopping 20 inches in diameter. The rear end bears some striking similarities to the Audi Q8, with angular full-width taillights and a large diffuser, albeit without the fake exhaust tips.

The publication also revealed some specifications to go with the pix. Despite being essentially a more conventional SUV version of the coupé-style Xingyue, the KX11 is quite a bit larger, with a length of 4,770 mm, a width of 1,895 mm, a height of 1,689 mm and a wheelbase of 2,845 mm.

Notably, even though the last figure is longer than the Haoyue’s, the overall length is actually some ways shorter. Auto Market Online says these numbers are for the five-seater model, so perhaps the seven-seater will have a longer rear overhang.

According to the report, the KX11 will be available with the Xingyue’s 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine in two states of tune – 215 hp and 235 hp – and with an Aisin eight-speed automatic gearbox. Also expected is a 1.5 litre turbo three-pot as a base model.

Of course, with every new Geely comes speculation of whether it will arrive in Malaysia as a Proton, though given our market’s price-sensitive nature, we’d wager that the Haoyue is a more likely bet. But over to you now – would you prefer a “Proton-ised” Haoyue or KX11 (taking to account the higher theoretical price of the latter)? Sound off in the comments after the jump.

  • Our market is not ready to accept a luxury Proton so nope better to go for Haoyue rather than KX11. Our brand sensitive buyers cannot look past the branding and see just how good this car will be vs pisspoor Jap offerings, in other more mature markets this would be a Harrier killer.

IMO the Haoyue would be ideal only if it will replace the X70. No point in regards to the malaysian market of having 2 different SUV model at the same price point. At the same price point however, the jiajie MPV would be a logical Exora replacement.

IMO the KX11 would be ideal for a proton SUV that would be positioned a notch above the X70 price-wise.

  • not in a very small market like us. p1 should focus on current lineup. iriz & persona need replacement. stop, pls stop making sedan in 4 sizes, not many buy C & D segment anymore. dont waste money. saga-iriz/persona-x50-x70. next u need is aruz/brv/xpander competitor. big market there.

  • Love it! Clean lines front & rear. Instead of single ‘thor’, 3 short drl bars flanked the projecter, good decision by designers to stay with horizontal rear taillight avoiding the vertical or stapler

Haoyue is already looking a little dated even against the X50.

KX11 has much promise, if priced well.

Whats the name be like? X110?
Does it ride on the XC90 chassis?

I would say anything that Geely throw to Malaysia now would be selling like hotcakes. Especially with the word “Volvo” mentioned. It needs little less curvatures especially on the front fascia from my liking, but all in all looks good.

Proton needs to buck up in bring in the latest product to the market and skip the outgoing models.
Proton is known for launching outdated or obsolete models here. Some examples are the Tiara, Juara & Savvy to name a few not forgetting the Accordana & Lancer.
Even with the X70, they decided to launch the pre-facelift model when the facelift was already in the launching stage in China.

The other very debatable subject is that Malaysians don’t buy if it is too expensive. We didn’t say so but why do you come to such assumptions.

I get very annoyed when even other brand makers decide to use the same excuse to not include what they offer to most of the other countries. Great examples are Toyota which still uses the old generation engine on their new Camry, Mazda to not bring use Skyactive X. It even goes to the extent where they even remove sound system Like Bose or Focal for our local consumers and expect us to settle for the lease.
X70 in China uses one of the well-known expensive brand Morel even though the car price is way cheaper there compare to us but we had to settle with KENWOOD. WHY?

I definitely would like to see this car here in Malaysia and I don’t mind paying if the price and package is right
    & appealing.

Seems like Proton or rather Geely is going for the higher end market. With the X70 and X50 challenging the rm100k price bracket and now with Haoyue or Jiajie and this SK11/Xingrui rumor. Don’t get me wrong. I am all for expanding and upgrading. It’s going to pleased the M40 and the upper middle class but not so for the lower bracket. What happened the the people’s mover or people’s car for the rakyat? With our aging Saga still able to sell 3k+ units per month I like to think it should be able to do 7k or 8k per month if the new Saga comes with prettier, stylish and sportier design to compete with Bezza. What about the Exora replacement? Now selling merely a few hundred units per month while Aruz is racking up thousands of units every month. Its really disheartening to see Proton at no.2 at every segment. Is Proton really exiting the lower end market? It’s OK to expand to the higher end spectrum but at the same time I think the Rakyat still wants Proton to be their no.1 people’s car. Please don’t abandon us, Proton.
