2022 Volvo XC90 prices up in Malaysia – B5 at RM389k; 462 hp Recharge T8 with 18.8kWh battery at RM405k

Volvo Car Malaysia has released the latest pricing for the XC90 B5 Inscription Plus and the Recharge T8 Inscription Plus, which have now been revised upwards by up to RM11k for the top specification, and by RM5k for the B5.

Now priced at RM404,775 on-the-road without insurance, the top Recharge T8 variant now gets a larger battery at 18.8 kWh as well as a higher total system output at 462 hp and 709 Nm of torque, which results from the more powerful electric motor for the rear wheels now producing 145 PS, up 58 PS from before.

Internal combustion drive continues to come courtesy of the 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 317 PS and 400 Nm on its own. Linking the ICE to the driven wheels is an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the XC90 B5 Inscription Plus is now priced at RM388,599 on-the-road without insurance, and continues to get a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, with an integrated starter generator (ISG) between itself and the engine contributing 14 PS and 40 Nm.

Across both B5 and Recharge T8 variants, the Inscription Plus trim specification in this update retains the kit list from before, save for the omission of the private locking function for the tailgate.

This means that the rest of the equipment list remains as before, and therefore continues to include the Intellisafe active safety suite comprised of City Safety with collision avoidance and mitigation with intersection support and pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection.

This is joined by City Safety with steering support and braking, front and rear collision warning and mitigation support, driver alert control, lane keeping aid, run-off road mitigation with road edge detection, oncoming lane mitigation, blind spot information with steer assist, and cross traffic alert with auto brake. Also included are adaptive cruise control, Pilot Assist, Park Assist Pilot for parallel and perpendicular parking, and a 360-degree surround view camera setup.

Exterior kit includes 20-inch 10-spoke diamond-cut alloy shod in 275/45R20 tyres, an active chassis setup with four-corner air suspension, the Inscription stylist kit comprised of the chrome-framed grille, exterior chrome detailed elements, door handles with illumination and ground lighting, body-coloured power-retractable exterior mirrors and more.

Inside, standard across the board for the 2022 model-year XC90 are Nappa leather, ventilated and heated front seats (also power-adjustable with position memory), power-folding rear headrests for the second-row outer seats, mechanical release and folding for the third-row seats.

As before, the driver gets a 12.3-inch adaptive digital display and head-up display, a three-spoke leather-trimmed steering wheel, Orrefors illuminated crystal gear lever, diamond-cut engine start button, drive mode selector and audio volume knob. Also on here are the intelligent driver information system and Sensus Navigation.

Joining the set for infotainment is the Sensus Connect with a nine-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, a 1,400-watt, 19-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charger, two USB-A ports within the front console storage compartment, two USB-C ports at the rear of the centre console for second-row occupants, and Bluetooth.

The range of exterior paint finishes continues here as before, with three metallic finishes – Denim Blue, Onyx Black and Pebble Grey, along with Crystal White Pearl. The 2022 Volvo XC90 is covered by a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty for all new vehicle purchases, and the Recharge T8 variant in particular is covered by an eight-year/160,000 km warranty for its plug-in hybrid drive battery.
