The Omoda C9 will be previewed in Malaysia via a livestream scheduled for today at 10.30am, according to a social media post by Jaecoo Malaysia. This comes after the SUV, which is also known as the Exeed RX or Yaoguang, was teased just a few days ago.
UPDATE: The Omoda C9 has been officially previewed in Malaysia and you can read all about it here.
Curiously, the latest post (particularly the one on Instagram) isn’t a collaborative effort with Omoda Malaysia’s account (@omodamalaysia), which appears to be not available. It was presumed that Omoda and Jaecoo (collectively known as “O&J”) would follow the same approach seen in other markets, where both brands share the same dealers separate from Chery.
The C9 is a five-seat, midsize SUV that is underpinned by the M3X platform and is about the size of the Proton X90 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. It is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission driving the front wheels.
In China, its close sibling, the RX, is rated at 261 PS (257 hp or 192 kW) and 400 Nm of torque, with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission also available. There’s even a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine, a front electric motor and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). As an option, a version of the PHEV system with an additional rear motor is offered for a total output of 619 PS (610 hp or 455 kW) and 920 Nm.
The Omoda C9 has been earmarked for Malaysia when we reported on it last October. It is one of three models planned for our market, with others being the Jaecoo J7 and J8, the former already on sale here and the latter previewed earlier this year. We’ll have wait till the livestream to see what sort of specs and equipment comes standard on the C9. Stay tuned for updates.
