MG ES5 EV revealed in China – ZS EV replacement with up to 525 km range, RWD, same platform as MG4

The MG ES5, a BEV SUV that will replace the ZS EV, has broken cover – according to CarNewsChina, the B-segmenter is expected to be priced between 100k-150k yuan (RM60k-91k) when it launches in China later this year.

There’s a 170 PS/250 Nm rear electric motor that’s fed by either a 49.1 kWh or 62.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery – both supplied by the CATL-SAIC JV. The CLTC ranges are expected to be 425 km, 515 km or 525 km depending on battery capacity, the century sprint time is eight seconds and the top speed is 170 km/h.

CarNewsChina adds that the vehicle is underpinned by SAIC’s Nebula pure electric architecture (which is also the basis for the MG4) and features five-link independent rear suspension. Measuring 4,476 mm long, 1,849 mm wide and 1,621 mm tall, with a 2,730 mm wheelbase, the ES5’s about the same size as a BYD Atto 3, while being 33 mm taller and having a 100 mm-longer wheelbase than the Chery Omoda E5.

We also get a look at the interior thanks to photos posted by Autohome – there’s an LCD instrument panel, a centre touchscreen and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Other features include a panoramic sunroof, two-level centre console and wireless phone charging.

If you put Buick logo or any other Chinese brands’ logo on that thing, we’ll never know the difference.
