Volvo Car Malaysia (VCM) has announced the Malaysian arrival of the Volvo EC40, the renamed C40 Recharge EV that made its global debut in February last year. Now, EC40 brings slightly more battery range, at 554 km on the WLTP testing standard, up from the 550 km (WLTP) attained by the 2024 C40. The EC40 is priced in Malaysia at RM288,888, unchanged from the 2024 C40.
This is achieved by the same 82 kWh battery capacity as that in the 2024 C40 Recharge, and the EC40 supports the same fast-charging rate of up to 200 kW DC, enabling a 10-80% replenishment in 28 minutes. Powertrain for the EC40 offers the same twin-motor configuration and output as on the 2024 C40 Recharge, with 300 kW or 408 PS.
Not announced for Malaysia, but in other markets is the Performance software pack which ramps up peak output by 34 PS to 442 PS, along with a revised pedal mapping for improved response. In Malaysia, the EC40 is sold with five years of complimentary Digital Services with access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store along with remote functions through the Volvo Cars mobile app.
The EC40 renaming was announced alongside that of the EX40, which makes it more clearly stated that it is the larger EV sibling to the EX30 that is priced from RM189k in Malaysia.
This streamlining of model names dispenses with the ‘Recharge’ badging, and PHEV models will get T6 or T8 badging to denote their differing powertrain output levels. Volvo is retaining the XC40 model name, which will be used on variants with an internal combustion engine.
The EC40 is priced in Malaysia at RM288,888, matching the 2024 C40 Recharge, and is sold with a five-year complimentary Volvo Service Plan (VSP). Until March 31, this model is also offered with a complimentary wallbox voucher worth RM5,000. Five colours are offered on the EC40 in Malaysia, starting with the new addition, Cloud Blue, joined by Crystal White, Onyx Black, Sage Green and Silver Dawn.
