Rapid KL to ramp up trains for ASEAN Summit – some bus, Rapid KL On-Demand routes could suffer delays

The upcoming ASEAN Summit and its numerous road closures are sure to drive many to use public transport from May 23-27. Rapid KL will extend weekday peak times for its trains by one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening (from the normal 7.00-9.30 am and 5.00-7.30 pm, to 6.30-10.00 am and 4.30-8.00 pm) throughout said dates, and boost train frequency during the May 24-25 weekend.

“If there is an increase in passengers, Rapid KL is prepared to increase the number of trains. A total of 400 additional staff have also been deployed at selected rail stations to help smoothen the movement of passengers and ASEAN delegations using public transport services,” Prasarana Malaysia said in a statement, adding that monitoring and operational control will also be ramped up.

However, several bus and Rapid KL On-Demand (what the DRT vans are called now) routes could experience delays owing to the road closures. These are Route 402 (LRT Titiwangsa – LRT Maluri), Route 302 (LRT Titiwangsa – KLCC), Route 300 (Pandan Indah Hub – Lebuh Ampang), Route 303 (Taman Mulia Jaya – Lebuh Ampang) and Rapid KL On-Demand (Titiwangsa – Chow Kit Zone).

“Bus users who wish to go to KLCC and surrounding areas are advised to use rail services to avoid traffic congestion,” the statement said, advising passengers to stay updated via Rapid KL’s social media channels and/or the Pulse app.
