Suzuki Malaysia has teased the Suzuki Fronx on its Facebook page. We saw it inside and out recently at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) and are happy to report that despite its more budget-oriented Maruti Suzuki origins, it does not feel like a bargain-basement SUV, even if it’s priced between 259 million and 321.9 million rupiah (RM67k-84k) in Indonesia (where it’s CKD locally assembled).
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor twin is 3,995 mm long (shorter than an Ativa!), 1,765 mm wide, 1,550 mm tall and has a 2,520 mm wheelbase. Indonesians can choose between GL, GX and SGX variants, and two powertrains including a mild-hybrid for the latter two variants.
The mild-hybrid carries a 101 PS/135 Nm 1.5 litre four-cylinder engine, a 12-volt lithium-ion battery, an integrated starter generator (ISG) and either a five-speed manual or six-speed auto. The base GL is a non-mild hybrid with a very slightly more powerful engine (105 PS and 138 Nm of torque) that’s mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed auto.
No matter the variant, Indonesia gets a 37-litre fuel tank, 16-inch alloys with 195/60 profile tyres, front MacPherson struts, a rear torsion beam, six airbags, front ventilated disc brakes and rear drum brakes. You can check out the Indonesian-market spec differences between variants here, but some of the available kit includes LED headlamps and DRLs, auto air-con, shift paddles and wireless phone charging.
Only the top variant has ADAS, including AEB, ACC, a 360-degree camera, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, vehicle swaying warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assist and a head-up display.
The Naza Eastern-era Suzuki Malaysia has hitherto been a niche CBU-only player (Jimny and Swift Sport). If the Fronx is indeed coming to Malaysia, it will be the first mainstream Suzuki in the country in a long while. As Naza doesn’t have an assembly plant anymore, can the Fronx be competitively-priced as a CBU car? Or is the CKD partner route possible?
Suzuki Fronx at GIIAS 2025
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Malaysia swift pun selling rm135k if this fronx selling rm160k better don’t launch.
Maybe RM200k, Kawan to Suzuki Jimny 4 doors
This one is larger yet more comfortable like the Diva Raize.
Doesn’t matter if it’s CBU or CKD, price it right, and it will give the WR-V and Tiggo Cross a run for their money, as for the Ativa, I doubt they can eat the Ativa sales chart, but if they go as far as without skimping out on equipment and give consumer a value for money car, they might be right there behind the Ativa sales chart. Wishing Suzuki the best and Goodluck!!! And please bring the Ertiga Next because that car looks sick!!! Need more MPV options in Malaysia leh.
you cant compete if you are CBU. The price will be high and people will not bother because you are not even the real Japanese Suzuki, you are an India Suzuki.
Naza better off to utilize inokom contract assembly rather then CBU suzuki brands. Suzuki made small cars that is not meant to be premium priced. Suzuki made cars suits indian market and extended to this SEA region.
go CKD is more reasonable to hit the target price. there is still market for both swift and jimmy but not in CBU form
Good luck trying to sell India-spec cars in this region.
Indian spec car (Jimny & Fronx) with Japanese CBU price in Malaysia..? Go to hell….
