Deepavali is just around the corner now, and there’s good news for those planning to balik kampung or take a short break out of town.
In today’s tabling of Budget 2026 by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the PM and finance minister announced that the government has approved a 50% toll discount for Deepavali. The half price offer will be for two days. No dates mentioned yet, but Deepavali falls on October 20, a Monday.
Anwar did not elaborate, but last year’s (100%) free toll gesture over two days of Deepavali cost the government an estimated RM38 million in compensation paid to highway concession companies, revealed by works minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, so you can do the math.
