The China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has been engaged by the federal government to construct the Sarawak-Sabah highway with an allocated budget of RM7.4 billion, The Sun has reported.
The Sarawak Ministry of Infrastructure and Ports Development had announced today that its minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah conducted a meeting with senior leadership of the CCCC in Chengdu, China on October 27.
The ministry stated that the delegation obtained crucial knowledge regarding CCCC’s environmentally sustainable approaches to the tunnelling of mountain and hilly terrain, which was employed in mountain expressway developments across remote regions in China.
“These construction methodologies align perfectly with our strategy for highway development in the Sarawak-Sabah corridor, which will establish land routes through challenging geographical features in Baram, Bario, and Lawas for the interstate highway, as well as in Sebuyau in southern Sarawak where an additional road initiative is planned,” stated the ministry.
According to the report, Lawas member of parliament Datuk Henry Sum Agong stated that Putrajaya has approved these major infrastructure projects.
“The Sarawak-Sabah Highway bypassing Brunei will allow travelers from other parts of Sarawak to reach Lawas and continue into Sabah via uninterrupted highway infrastructure. These developments collectively will drive long-term growth for the Sarawak-Sabah region,” he said.
In the tabling of Budget 2026, an allocation of RM48 billion was announced for highways and road infrastructure in Sabah and Sarawak. In 2026, RM1.67 billion have been allocated to Pan Borneo Sabah for the project to be implemented according to schedule.

This is good. Better than the project handle by Malaya company, look at Rosmah solar project as the example. China company are really good and fast in construction work.
Sabah section of the pan Borneo project wouldve been better if given to China company too. Must be cepat af siap. Gave to local contractor lol took million years and billion ringgit more than planned just to see Another section rosak and need to rebuild Again and still never finish!
Becoz Malaysian company owner first priority is to make money for themselves…never think to make good infrastructure for the nation/ rakyat…they want to make quick money and run away with the money …and than open another company and lobby for another get quick money project … China companies want to make money also but at the same time they want to safeguard their reputation so that they can get more profitable projects .. so in the end is a win win for every parties

Kenapa ambil contractor China. Malaysia dah tak ada contractor yg layak ke untuk buat projek highway Sabah Sarawak. Macam mana boleh utamakan Syarikat luar drpd Syarikat tempatan untuk projek2 besar macam ni. Teruk sangat ke Syarikat Bumiputr?
