The work-from-home (WFH) policy for the civil service in Malaysia which commenced on April 15 has led to savings of up more than 334,000 litres of fuel amounting to RM678,000, communications minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has said, reported The Star.
More than 155,000 civil servants have applied for WFH as of Tuesday, April 21, Fahmi said. “The number of civil servants who applied to WFH has exceeded 155,000 individuals. From April 15 till yesterday, it is estimated that savings have amounted to 334,000 litres of fuel which amounts to RM678,000,” he said.
The communications minister said that chief secretary to the government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bahar was instructed to get more information from the private sector regarding WFH implementation.
The work-from-home policy for ministries, government agencies, statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs) in Malaysia was announced by prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a special address on April 1, aimed at reducing the nation’s fuel consumption and ensuring a sustainable supply of energy in light of the prolonged conflict in West Asia.
This move echoed initiatives taken by some ASEAN countries, including Thailand which directed its government personnel to work from home, while remote working has been encouraged in Vietnam, and many offices in the Philippines have been ordered to shift to a four-day work weeks.
Earlier this week, Malaysian deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that the government is now spending RM6-7 billion a month to subsidise fuel, which is up from RM4 billion last month despite the Budi95 quota having been temporarily cut from 300 litres to 200 litres per person.

basically insignificant lol. force the non essential sector to wfh also la. my god traffic is arguably worse now than before this war even started.
they will go outstation on weekends and spend the saving. 200lt is not enough to use to drive to work everyday especially if they live on the outskirts.
During extra ordinary times, the government should take extra ordinary measures.
Using the current fuel quota system that is implemented, one way is to introduce an addition tier which is between 100L to 200L and price it between RM2 to RM3 per Liter, ie:
Less than 100L = RM1.99
Between 100L to 200L = RM2.50 (for example)
More than 200L = Market rate
Most B40 are using motorbikes and lower CC vehicles that don’t consume as much as those driving BMW and Merc.
This change in pricing structure will force the people to rethink the way they commute and choice of vehicle. Reward those who conserve energy.
There is just too much government expenditure in fuel subsidies alone and eating into other areas which could be put in good for better schools infrastructure, health care and economy development.

PUTRAJAYA: The probe into an alleged RM8 million bribery case dating back to 2012 was initiated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following a reassessment of intelligence and financial trails.
MACC Special Operations Division senior director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin said the commission continuously reviewed information relating to corruption offences, regardless of when the alleged conduct occurred.
“The present investigation was initiated following a reassessment of relevant information and financial trails that warranted further scrutiny under the MACC Act 2009 and other applicable laws,” he said in response to queries from the New Straits Times.
The development follows MACC’s arrest of a former telecommunications company director, in his 50s, who is suspected of offering RM8 million in bribes to a bank’s group president and managing director to facilitate approval of a RM400 million loan application.
