Genting Highlands road charge starts May 28 – payment at two entry points, RM5 for cars and buses

Starting from this Thursday, May 28, motorists travelling to Genting Highlands will have to pay an applicable road charge upon entry into Jalan Genting Highlands. In a statement issued yesterday evening, Lingkaran Cekap (LCSB), the authorised operator of the Genting Highlands road network, said that payment will be collected at two entry points, these being Genting Sempah and the Gohtong Jaya roundabout.

Under the road charge structure, Class 1 vehicles such as cars and vans will be charged RM5 per entry at both entry points. Class 2 vehicles such as medium-sized lorries will have to pay RM15, while Class 3 heavy lorries will be charged RM25. Taxis (Class 4) will have to pay RM3.30, while buses (Class 5) will pay RM5.

According to LCSB, all Class 2, 3, 4 and 5 vehicles are required to enter via the designated “Lorong Khas” lanes or use the licence plate recognition (LPR) system. It added that emergency vehicles and motorcycles will be exempted from the road charge without requiring registration.

As indicated previously, LCSB said private vehicles belonging to public servants working at designated government institutions in Genting Highlands will be exempted from having to pay the road charge, subject to registration and entry via LPR and special lanes. The designated institutions, which include schools, police and fire stations as well as district offices and clinics, are:

  • SK Sri Layang
  • SMK Sri Layang
  • Institut Amiruddin Baki
  • Balai Polis Genting Highlands
  • Balai Polis Gohtong Jaya
  • Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Genting Highlands
  • Klinik Desa Sri Layang
  • Pejabat Daerah Kecil Genting Highlands
  • Pejabat Daerah dan Tanah Bentong
  • Pejabat Cawangan Majlis Perbandaran Bentong (Cawangan Genting Highlands)
  • Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan (SUK) Negeri Pahang (Cawangan Genting Highlands), and
  • Any other government institution located in Genting Highlands identified and named by the state government from time to time

The operator also announced that starting from June 28, it will extend a preferential rate to eligible permanent residents of Genting Highlands, with registration of up to two Class 1 vehicles per household for this. The rate will be 10% lower than the normal rate per entry, accomplished by using the LPR or special lanes. It added that registered vehicles will not incur any charges prior to June 28.

In addition, LCSB said that for greater convenience, registered permanent residents can opt for a six-month season pass scheme, which will entitle holders to unlimited entries into Jalan Genting Highlands throughout its validity period, via the LPR or special lanes. While pricing was not indicated, it said that this option will offer significant cost savings, and permanent residents who are interested in the season pass can obtain it by submitting an application and making the necessary payment.
