Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a five-seat compact executive SUV for buyers wanting an all-wheel-drive Mercedes with petrol-hybrid or plug-in-hybrid power. This X254 generation launched in 2023 and starts from RM329,888 in Malaysia. It suits drivers after a premium family SUV with automatic transmission and five seats.

GLC in 2026 — what's new

The X254 GLC carries into 2026 unchanged, with no 2026-specific update to the Malaysian range. The line-up remains the GLC200 AMG Line and GLC 350e 4Matic AMG Line. Both use a 1,999 cc petrol-based hybrid powertrain, all-wheel drive, an automatic transmission and five seats; the 350e is the plug-in hybrid with 335 hp.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should choose the GLC200 AMG Line at RM329,888. Its 224 hp output, all-wheel drive and five-seat layout cover the core GLC brief for RM69,000 less. Pay RM398,888 for the GLC 350e 4Matic AMG Line if plug-in-hybrid capability matters and its 335 hp output is wanted. On paper, the extra outlay buys electrified power rather than a stated change in seating, transmission or drive layout, so check the equipment list closely.

Verdict

The GLC is much improved, but pricing still needs scrutiny. The GLC200 costs RM4,088 more than the BMW X3 and RM1,000 more than the Volvo XC60, though it is RM23,012 below the Audi Q5. The GLC 350e sits RM45,988 above the Q5, making the plug-in hybrid difficult to justify on price alone unless its PHEV capability is a priority.
