Overview
The Proton X90 is a D-segment, seven-seat SUV and Proton’s largest X-series model, aimed at families needing three rows without moving into a van-like MPV. The 2026 MC range starts at RM106,800 for the Lite, with all variants using a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox and seven seats.
X90 in 2026 — what's new
The 2026 Proton X90 MC is the current-generation update launched for 2026. The big mechanical change is the switch to the 1.5T i-GT four-cylinder petrol engine and the deletion of the earlier 48V mild-hybrid system. The range is now three variants: Lite, Prime and Prime X. The exterior looks much the same as before. It also loses ADAS, and the ASEAN NCAP rating is now one star.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should begin with the Lite at RM106,800. On paper, Lite, Prime at RM116,800 and Prime X at RM122,800 share the same 1,499 cc petrol engine, 178 hp output, wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox and seven-seat layout. The RM10,000 gap to Prime and RM6,000 step to Prime X do not buy stated mechanical changes here, so pay more only after checking the equipment list.

Verdict
The Proton X90’s brief is clear: three-row family transport in an SUV body, now with a simpler 1.5T i-GT petrol setup instead of the previous 48V mild-hybrid system. Its RM106,800 entry price sits below the Jetour VT9, Leapmotor C10 and Chery Tiggo 8, but the one-star ASEAN NCAP result after ADAS removal is a serious mark against it. Judge it with that trade-off front and centre.
