Overview
The Proton X90 is a D-segment, front-wheel-drive seven-seat SUV for families needing three rows rather than a five-seat crossover. The 2026 VX11 MC range uses a 1.5-litre petrol four-cylinder with a wet dual-clutch automatic and 178 hp. Prices start from RM106,800.
X90 in 2026 — what's new
The 2026 Proton X90 MC arrives as a new-generation range with three seven-seat, front-wheel-drive variants: Lite, Prime and Prime X. It uses a 1.5-litre turbo i-GT four-cylinder and drops the former 48V mild-hybrid system. The latest confirmed change is this MC launch; an Indonesian 2026 Geely Okavango sighting points only to a possible future facelift, not a confirmed X90 update. Removal of ADAS brings its ASEAN NCAP rating down to one star.

Which variant to buy
Buy the Lite unless the Prime or Prime X equipment lists contain features you specifically need. All three use the same 178 hp 1.5-litre petrol engine, front-wheel drive, wet dual-clutch automatic and seven-seat layout. The Lite costs RM106,800, the Prime RM116,800 and the Prime X RM122,800. On paper, the RM10,000 step to Prime and further RM6,000 to Prime X do not buy extra power or a different drivetrain, so check the equipment list before spending more.

Verdict
The X90 makes its case with seven seats, a 178 hp petrol turbo and a price that starts RM12,550 below the Jetour VT9. But its safety position is hard to ignore: the current MC's one-star ASEAN NCAP rating follows ADAS removal. The mechanical specification does not change across Lite, Prime and Prime X, so equipment must justify spending beyond the entry car.
