Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Suzuki Jimny (JB74) is a four-seat B-segment SUV with a 1.5 litre petrol engine and conventional automatic gearbox. Priced from RM158,900 in Malaysia, it suits buyers who want something small and distinctive rather than the usual family-SUV template. It is not a budget choice next to mainstream B-segment SUVs.

Jimny in 2026 — what's new

For 2026, the Jimny story centres on the AllGrip Plus and Rhino Plus versions, with headlines confirming ADAS, front and rear parking sensors and pricing in the RM159k-RM174k band. The Jimny AllGrip Plus, Jimny Rhino Plus and Fronx also get a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty in Malaysia. The core JB74 remains a 1.5 litre automatic four-seater.

Verdict

The Jimny is the oddball in this class, and that is the point. At RM158,900, it costs far more than a Perodua Ativa, Aruz or Traz, and even more than the Suzuki Fronx. Judged as a rational B-segment SUV purchase, it makes little sense. But it is also the rare modern SUV that does not feel homogeneous, which explains the pull.
