Audi Malaysia has opened the order books for the 2023 RS3 Sedan with pricing expected to range from RM650k to RM750k. The RS3 Sedan will join the Audi RS line-up in Malaysia currently made up of the RS4 Avant, RS5 Sportback, RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback and more recently, the RS Q8.

The second-generation RS3 Sedan is powered by a 2.5 litre TFSI turbocharged five-cylinder petrol engine that makes 400 PS from 5,600 rpm to 7,000 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 2,250 rpm to 5,600 rpm. Power is sent to all four corners via a seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic gearbox and a quattro all-wheel drive system.

These figures allow the RS3 Sedan to go from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h. Armed with such performance, the RS3 Sedan went on to be the fastest compact car to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit. It did so in seven minutes 40.748 seconds.

For comparison, the Mercedes-AMG A45S 4MATIC+ produces 421 PS at 6,750 rpm and 500 Nm from 5,000 rpm, from a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The new M139 engine is paired with an eight-speed AMG Speedshift DCT 8G dual-clutch transmission for drive all four wheels via the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ system.

The AMG A45S does 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and is capable of hitting a 270 km/h top speed with the Driver’s Package. It may be neck and neck in terms of performance but the A45S gallops ahead with a price tag starting from just RM481,888.

The RS3 Sedan’s powertrain features an RS Torque Splitter that comes with torque vectoring between the rear wheels. The feature enables controlled drifts as all of the engine’s power can be channeled to just one of the rear wheels.

Also available is the new RS Performance drive mode which adjusts the powertrain for optimum performance on a racetrack while an RS Torque Rear mode essentially serves as a ‘drift mode’. Other RS goodies offered include the RS sport suspension plus with adaptive damper control, ceramic brake discs, 19-inch wheels with a 10-spoke design, RS-specific front and rear bumpers along with an RS exhaust system. The RS exhaust system comes with a fully variable flap control system.

RS-specific items inside the cabin include a shift indicator that changes from green to yellow to red, Nappa leather seats with RS-style honeycomb stitching, and a flat-bottomed RS steering wheel featuring a 12 o’clock marker and an RS button.

The driver can monitor coolant, engine, and transmission oil temperatures through the 10.1-inch infotainment display. Other driving information such as power and torque outputs, g-forces, acceleration and lap times are displayed on the 12.3-inch virtual cockpit plus. For the first time, the RS3 Sedan is fitted with a head-up display.

The model you see in the images is a registered Singaporean car so local specifications may differ. How do you like the RS3 Sedan in its new Kyalami Green colour? Does it look too jarring? Or is that how you’d expect an RS3 to look? Let us know in the comments!

Audi RS3 Sedan open for booking in Malaysia – 400 PS, 500 Nm 2.5L turbo five from RM650k to RM750k

Audi Malaysia has announced that the order books have opened for the 2023 RS3 Sedan, with pricing expected to range from RM650k to RM750k. The announcement comes after last week’s announcement of the RS3 Sedan’s local arrival, which will see the five-cylinder sedan join the current stable of five Audi RS models currently on sale in Malaysia.

This is the second-generation RS3 Sedan, which continues to pack the 2.5 litre TFSI turbocharged inline-five cylinder petrol engine that produces 400 PS from 5,600 rpm to 7,000 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 2,250 rpm to 5,600 rpm. Outputs are sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in 3.8 seconds, and top speed is 250 km/h.

Aiding the transmission of engine outputs is the RS Torque Splitter, which uses an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch on each driveshaft, which enables the sending of all engine output to one single wheel should conditions require it.

The closest competition for the Audi RS3 Sedan is one wearing the three-pointed star, the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 S four-door coupé that is priced in Malaysia at RM467,691. The Affalterbach offering is marginally down on cylinder count and displacement, but counters with higher outright power at 421 PS and the same 500 Nm of torque from its M139 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine.

Like the RS3 Sedan, the CLA45 S sends its outputs to all four wheels via a dual-clutch transmission, albeit one with eight speeds. Which German high-performance compact sedan tickles your fancy?

The Audi RS line-up in Malaysia currently consists of five models, namely the RS4 Avant, RS5 Sportback, RS6 Avant, RS7 Sportback and more recently, the RS Q8. These will soon be joined by the latest RS3 Sedan, which will be making its first appearance in Malaysia next week according to a Facebook post by Audi Centre Glenmarie.

Currently in its second generation, the RS3 Sedan first made its global debut last July alongside its hatchback sibling, the RS3 Sportback. Competing against the C118 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 S 4 Matic+, the RS3 Sedan packs a 2.5 litre turbocharged straight-five engine that sends drive to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive system.

Audi has a long history with five-cylinder engines, and the TFSI unit in the RS3 Sedan delivers an impressive 400 PS (394 hp) from 5,600 to 7,000 rpm and 500 Nm of torque from 2,250 to 5,600 rpm. These figures allow for a 0-100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. Along with all the other improvements you’ll find out about shortly, the RS3 lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 40.748 seconds, beating the previous lap record by 4.64 seconds to become the fastest compact car to tackle the Green Hell.

The powertrain also features a rear axle differential that Audi calls an RS Torque Splitter, which allows for fully variable torque vectoring between the rear wheels. Unlike the previous setup that had a single multi-disc clutch package on the rear axle, the Torque Splitter uses one electronically controlled multi-disc clutch for each driveshaft.

Each of the two multi-disc clutches has its own control unit, which uses the electronic stabilisation control’s wheel speed sensors to measure the wheel speeds to decide how much torque to send to each wheel. This also enables controlled drifts by applying all the engine power at the rear axle to just one of the rear wheels – up to a maximum of 1,750 newton meters of torque.

Drivers will also have access to a new RS Performance drive mode, which adjusts the powertrain to deliver optimum performance on the racetrack. If more sliding is preferred, there’s also a RS Torque Rear mode that is essentially a drift mode. These join other available options like Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, RS Individual and Efficiency.

Another new addition to the RS3 Sedan is the modular vehicle dynamics controller (mVDC). This central system captures data from all powertrain components relevant to lateral dynamics to ensure they interact more precisely and more quickly.

The RS sport suspension plus with adaptive damper control is available as an alternative to the standard passive setup, while ceramic brake discs are also offered as an option to replace the standard steel discs. As for the chassis, it’s McPherson struts at the front and a four-link setup at the rear.

Visually, the RS3 Sedan is properly aggressive with its large intakes on the RS-specific front bumper, distinctive headlamp design (LED standard, Matrix LED optional), revised taillights with dynamic turn signals, RS-specific rear bumper with an integrated diffuser as well as a RS exhaust system with oval tailpipes and fully variable flap control system.

Inside, there’s the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus as standard and 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Model-specific features for the RS model include a shift indicator, a powertrain status display and for the first time in the RS3 range, a head-up display.

We’ll have to wait until next week to find out more about the RS3 for our market, including specifications and possibly pricing. Looking forward to it?

2022 Audi RS3 Sportback and RS3 Sedan debut – 400 PS/500 Nm 2.5 litre TFSI, Torque Splitter rear axle

After a batch of teaser images as well as a preview, Audi has finally given the RS 3 Sportback and RS 3 Sedan duo their official unveiling. The new Audi Sport duo have the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+ and Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4Matic+ squarely in their sights, going toe-to-toe in the ultimate performance hatchback and compact sedan stakes.

The RS3 Sportback and RS3 Sedan debut as third- and second-generation models respectively, and the heart of each member of this high-performance duo continues to be the turbocharged five-cylinder 2.5 litre TFSI engine, which now produces 400 PS from 5,600 rpm to 7,000 rpm, and 500 Nm of torque from 2,250 rpm to 5,600 rpm.

These propel the RS 3 Sportback and Sedan from 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, or 0.3 seconds quicker than their predecessors. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, or it can be optionally raised to 280 km/h. If this is still deemed insufficient, buyers can also opt for the RS Dynamic package that brings ceramic brakes, and the top speed can be further lifted to 290 km/h.

In classic high-performance Audi fashion, engine outputs are sent to all four wheels, with the RS 3 Sportback and RS 3 Sedan using a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. This time around, the RS 3 Sportback and Sedan gain an Audi-first Torque Splitter, where an electronically-controlled multiple-disc clutch pack on each drive shaft replaces the previous arrangement of differential and multi-disc clutch combination.
