2016 Porsche Macan – range updated, new packages

2016 Porsche Macan-02

Porsche recently introduced the 360 hp/500 Nm Macan GTS at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, and has now realigned some equipment for the rest of the compact SUV range, which enters a new model year.

The 2016 Macan comes with the new Porsche Communication Management infotainment system that made its debut in the recently revealed 991 facelift. The new seven-inch touchscreen comes with a smartphone-style user interface with proximity sensor and multi-touch gesture selection.

Speaking of smartphones, the Connect module contains an integrated smartphone compartment in the centre armrest for recharging and optimised signal reception. iPhones can be linked via Apple CarPlay. The new navigation system, available in 3D for the first time in certain regions and controllable with voice, delivers real-time traffic info and Google services. Using the PCM as a WiFi hotspot is also possible.

Macan owners can now select full-LED headlights in connection with the optional Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus. The new lights have a beam colour that’s similar to daylight, and use less energy.

PDLS Plus includes the functions of dynamic cornering and country road light as well as a separate mode for motorway and bad weather. The camera-based dynamic main beam function auto adjusts the lighting range during night driving. Also, based on navigation data, the intersection light activates an additional lamp unit to better illuminate the area the Macan is turning into.

The Macan Turbo gets additional exterior and interior packages inspired by the GTS. Besides the 21-inch rims in bi-colour 911 Turbo design, Sport Design door mirrors and wheel hub covers with coloured Porsche crest add further accents. Contrasting elements in gloss black can be found on the air inlets and side blades, as well as the window trim strips and the rear underbody. Black pipes and smoked rear lights, too.

Inside, Alcantara trim is found on the seats, centre console armrest and door cards. Decorative stitching in Rhodium Silver or Garnet Red on the instrument panel, seats and door panels provide contrast. Turbo lettering on the headrests and illuminated carbon door sill plates warn occupants of the 400 hp in store. There’s also an optional Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel with heating.

Both packages can be ordered independently of each other. The 2016 Macan will be available from early next year in Europe and we’re expecting the latest model year SUV to arrive not long after. Check out our walk-around video of the Macan, as well as a test drive report.

This car is nothing but a problematic VW in disguise. Only a fool will buy a Porsche thinking it is a true Porsche of the yesteryear. Todays Porsches are 100% Volkswagen parts ie Dieselgate lies.

Finally, good to see the new generation PCM is already here on the Macan. The old one was quite rubbish really, so much so that I would say even Skoda were doing a better job.
