Nissan is planning a Z sports coupe slotted above the current Nissan 350Z called the Nissan 450Z. The upgraded model will feature a 4.5 liter V8 engine which would likely be a tuned up version of the VK45DE from the Infiniti M45. The VK45DE makes 340hp currently, but Left Lane News reports the final product will feature 430hp. Of course, all that crazy power requires all-wheel drive, so that will be standard as well.
Nissan plans to pitch this new Nissan 450Z against the Porsche Carrera 911 and the Maserati 4.2.

Lovely looks. Lovelier speed

finally….911 turbo needs some competition…..at least in terms of handling and speed……
i was thinking whether this would overlap or eclipse the new skyline. might be close coz the skyline might still use the 3.5 turboed. if im not guessing wrong.

The pic is a 350Z GT4 Special Edition.
Will it be a new car from ground up or a 350Z with bigger engine? With the new engine, Nissan might just (barely) matches (tho not likely) the performance of the two targeted rivals, but would it be as special as either of them? In its current class, the 350Z’s strong points are its looks, handling and outright pace.
Going up the class ladder will be tricky for the Nissan, the Maser 4200GT’s engine is touted to be one of the finest V8 ever, power delivery and sound to die for, while the Porsche 911 will be backed by its legendary status, plus its sublime handling. Compared to these cars the Nissan can be considered too ‘ordinary’

nice!!!!

I read somewhere that the GTR Proto would be getting the VK45 in a “turbo” trim….but damn, nissan finally gets it. They’ve been putting V8’s in the early 240/60/80Z’s for years, and we had to wait, what, over 30 years for it?
But enough about the bitchin…it would/is a hot car.

They just have to slap a twin-turbo on the 350z and they’d be pushing 430hp anyways. no need to jam a huge v8 (much much heavier motor) into a 350z to give it more kick.

i agree porsche would always have its marque to back it up….but thats what the japs sports car need to provide….a cheaper alternative.
i agree with the turbo twinchargers……but maybe they want to keep to current theme of the nissan z which is NA. the turbochargers are for the skyline. but i agree with mr said, with the technology of turbos getting better everyday, theres no need for a big heavy engine to derive more power. also with the awd coupled in…..problably wont even feel the turbo switchover.

“They just have to slap a twin-turbo on the 350z and they’d be pushing 430hp anyways.”
As much as I’d like that, it isn’t realistic. There is way too much R&D involved in turbos, especially for a platform that has remained naturally aspirated since its inception. This would increase costs greatly and on top of that, you can’t just take any engine and slap a turbo on it, expecting it to run perfectly. They would likely add as much if not more weight in turbos and processes for strengthening the motor for reliability than just a single litre of displacement. While elegant, the age old rule still applies: ‘the more complicated something is, the more there is that can go wrong.’ I also think you may misunderstand the reason and/or function of twin turbo use. You don’t have two beefy turbos just to double the ‘turbo power.’ One turbo will be smaller in order to spool faster off the start while the other is a larger turbo to provide more boost further down the line. This eliminates the much maligned ‘turbo lag’ intrinsic to larger turbos when a car starts off. The airflow is impeded in the intake as the larger fan struggles to spin faster.

The 450z their refering to is probably the gtr. If not then that means the gtr will be an infiniti and this 450z will be nissans halo car.

to all you people who want a turbo put on this car, you are very badly in need of some schooling. I dont care how light the motor is and how many turbos you can cram onto it, pure v8 muscle is better. it sounds better runs better and has more power, so put up your 4 cylinders and get a real motor.

Not always true…. That is one way that they can be set-up… But you can also have them run side by side on a v shaped engine so that you dont have to have some mass of piping connecting both mani’s to one turbo…

^^^Only one opinion of the many… But i do agree with having the V8 put into it. If anyone has seen what top secret has done to a z about 2 years ago… They took a z and the nissan titan motor and put them together. Then slapped on some huge turbos… Even more power = even more fun…
