Proton not selling Lotus

Proton managing director Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohd Tahir has stated Proton is not selling the British sports car manufacturer Lotus, in reply to Tengku Mahaleel and Tun Dr. Mahathir’s offer to buy the company for 1 pound sterling in jest.

Syed Zainal said Proton’s future plans for the future will capitalise on the Lotus Group’s engineering strength, as well as areas like branding and training. He admitted Proton had not utilised Lotus to the desired extent so far, but Proton and Lotus officials met two weeks ago to discuss future collaborations. It is hoped that future collaborations would be done in a more structured and focused manner.

To address falling sales, Proton Edar CEO Datuk Maruan mentioned Proton would organise visits to the Proton Shah Alam plant to show potential customers how Protons are built, in order to restore faith in the national car manufacturer’s products.

"The perception today is that quality is not that good. If you manage to swing the perception from negative to positive, I am sure it will help your sales in the future,"

That's a quote of what Syed Zainal said to the press conference. I like the way this guy thinks. Improving the brand name is always the main issue, and that can only be done if customers feel that Proton offers good quality cars with good value for money. If only a certain ex-CEO realised this 8 years ago…

    if only…

Well, that's a good news to hear. At least we know now for sure that Lotus is here to stay. There are sure a lot more of things that Proton should do to capitalise on the expertise that they have and could have from Lotus. Having Lotus onboard is not entirely a bad thing. They have what people called the one of the best in the world. Bob Hall, the man who sells the Miata and Lotus. If only they could produce better quality parts, I'd say they could take on the world anytime. Or am I just blindly optimistic?

___________________________________________________________________________Robert Hall doesn't sell Miata and Lotus. He was involved in the Team in Mazda in the late 80 that were behind the concept design and execution of the first Generation MX5.

Currently he's part of proton'sproduct planning.

the country will fail when “politician run business”, that is why all this “protection” come in. Worst, who make the money, small individual politician.
