Volkswagen buying over 90 percent of Giugiaro?

Volkswagen LogoAccording to Automotive News Europe sources, Volkswagen AG will officially announce their take over of Italdesign Giugiaro S.p.A on Tuesday (European time, not our time) as mentioned in previous articles. If things go through, Volkswagen will be buying up a huge 90 percent stake in the design company that had a hand in cars such as the original Lotus Esprit. The Giugiaro family will retain 10 percent of the family business that surrounds Italdesign co-founder Giorgetto Giugiaro and his son Fabrizio, 45, who heads the design and model division. The move will further help in VW’s plans in strengthening its global brand.

Maybe this will mean less carmakers will use Giugiaro services. I really think this is a good move and wise decision by VW. Maybe they will kowteam another carmaker to take over Seat for 1Euro too.

I can’t believe that this is happening! But well, no doubt that VW will be having much more better designed cars with the one of the best mechanical components found in the cars…I strongly believe that VW will be one of the most powerful Auto Car company in the world.

cant the vw just pay the firm for the designs instead of acquiring them? now other people may not be able to access the firm any more because it has become internal department of vw…=(

Lotus owned by Proton but still consults other carmakers on vehicle dynamics. Surely an arrangement can be done between VW & Giugiaro. If not the company will die like that.

Just like Proton owned Lotus, every design and project has their own agreement and patent attached to it…they (VW) cannot just pluck it out for their own usage…if not Proton could have used all the technologies in the Lotus bin to enhance its product…classic example is Campro engine…they could of just use the system designed for Porsche if the could, but just could’nt without breaching their agreement to the client…
