Production Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback revealed

GM’s Chevrolet will bring the production version of the Cruze hatchback to Geneva, and here are the official images of the five-door. We expected the concept revealed in Paris 2010 to be close to final, and it has turned out to be true – barring the usual showcar flash, the Cruze hatchback is more or less identical to the concept.

Chevy points us to the Holden designed car’s “sweeping coupe roofline”, short overhangs and the same “dynamic stance” as the sedan, but I’m struggling to find this hatchback attractive, just neat. What do you think? Compared to the concept, the production car loses the four lamp headlights, LED driving lamps, big wheels and fancy taillights. Chevy says that cargo capacity is close to 400 litres and it will of course have 60/40 split rear seats.

Intended for the brand to go mainstream in Europe, the new hatchback is expected to add to Cruze sales, which last year surpassed the Aveo to become Chevrolet’s top selling passenger car nameplate globally. It will go on sale by mid 2011.

What’s wrong with the Corsa or the Astra? Is it the Americans trying (too hard) to get into the Euro psyche? Or is it the Americans trying to reduce the Cruze’s design ROI by stretching its use into hatchback on same platform? Every Euro auto maker have a hatch in mind when they develop a sedan coz their home market is mostly hatch dominated. Here comes an American label who’s better off making pickup trucks back home, drops a sedan which we have yet to fully embrace, and stretch it to become a hatch. I don’t think they have us ASEAN peeps in mind when they did this.

the cruze sedan is priced for the higher income segment. the cruze hatchback caters to a different income segment and demographic profile. and as hatchbacks sell more than sedans in europe, this is a good way to increase chevy marketshare in europe.

the cruze sedan costs a lot more there than the cruze hatchback in europe. so the cruze hatchback will cater to a different income segment. just because there is a sedan there doesn’t mean everyone likes it or can afford it. you need to know that european markets generally still favour hatchback bodystyles and this form provides the highest sales compared to sedans. this is not Asia or America, where the sedans sell more.

  • Seriously, it doesn’t attract my attention at all. The sale person even had to use BMW look alike to sale the Sedan version. Shame on them.

    Oh NO~!

the Wow Factors of the four lamp headlights, LED driving lamps, big wheels and fancy taillights are gone~!

That are the factors making a Hatchback looks Sports and Young~!

I’m been waiting for this car after the Paris exhibition 2011, But come to production..

Kind of disappointment come across me….

Why Chevrolet Cruze must have hatchback version for Europe?
