Mitsubishi to rebadge Nissan NV200 as Delica D:3 in Japan

Mitsubishi to rebadge Nissan NV200 as Delica D:3 in Japan

The OEM partnership between Mitsubishi and Nissan looks to be growing even further – Mitsubishi is set to take yet another vehicle from Nissan into its model line-up for the domestic market.

Thus far, under the existing OEM agreements with Nissan, Mitsubishi is selling the AD commercial vehicle under its badge, while supplying its eK Wagon and other minivehicles, according to reports. Already, both companies have set up a JV to develop mini-cars for the market, with operations having begun in June.

Now, Mitsubishi is set to add Nissan’s NV200 van to the list and plans to start selling the 1.6 litre-class vehicle as the Delica D:3 sometime from the end of October, and it’s hoping to shift 5,000 units for the initial year.

The company is also mulling over getting a luxury sedan like the Teana to sell under its own brand. Having considerably trimmed its model line-up, 60% of Mitsubishi’s domestic sales are now made up of mini-vehicles, and the reports add that procuring more models from Nissan will allow the company to feature a more balanced product range without increasing its R&D spending.

Japanese car makers are waking up now and starting to reduce their JDM-only model which don’t really make sense in terms of volume and profitability.

Nissan & Mitsubishi should cosolidate or merge, Nissan can kick out Renault (Nissan begin to produce ugly car after joining Renault) as for Mitsubishi they can stop selling their engine technology to Korean & Chinese, which end up causing damage to the entire Japanese auto industries.

    • no way nissan can kick renault out. the CEO of nissan is french. n by the way because of Renault, nissan started to earn money.

    • vi dont think its wise for mitsu and nisan to merge
but they could sign a joint technology agreement

the venture between nisan and rinolt is a good idea i believe
both used each other’s existing brand to expose the partner in areas they are not known of
e.g. motorsports, compact cars, electric cars, brand recognition in certain countries
and they did not bicker like what VW did to Suzuki
      hahaha

but the design of the above MPV is butt ugly
my dad has the nissan serena 2003 ver. and it looked way better than that

‘nissan can kickout renault’ …dude if it were not for renault..nissan would have gone bankrupt 10 years ago….although its known as an alliance..renault does own 44% stake in nissan while nissan owns a mere 15% stake in return….even the gtr had to be given greenlight by carlos ghosn dude….if not for him and his company..nissan would cease to exist….

As i remembered, last time Mitsubishi-Proton agreement was Proton re-badge Lancer and Mitsubishi re-badge Exora. Now Lancer has been rebadge by Proton but Exora not yet being rebadge, plus this MPV from Nissan crowding Mitsubishi stable.

Mitsubishi is getting confused; Grandis, NV200 (Delica), Exora, Nissan, Hyundai-Kia,
    and no loger winning Rallies….
