Changan CS95 concept is all lines and angles

changan-cs95-concept2

Nothing like lots of lines and angles to catch the eye, and that’s precisely the approach used for the Changan CS95 concept, which jumped out in Shanghai. The show study supposedly paves the way for a large range-topping SUV from the automaker.

The five-seater measures in at 5,380 mm-long, and sits on a newly-developed platform with a 3,330 mm-long wheelbase. It’s powered by a hybrid drive system comprised of a 3.5 litre V6 petrol mill with 245 hp and 317 Nm and an electric motor developing 167 hp and 335 Nm, driven through an eight-speed auto tranny.

The vehicle is expected to be conventionally petrol powered when it does arrive in its production form though, and the final design should also be more sedate, but you never know with them folks.

I find this just plain beautiful. As a concept artist, I’m very impressed and a little envious ^_^
I hope to be able to come up with designs at this level myself someday.

Looks beautiful, but when they slap a chinaman logo on the front bonnet, it kind of lose its appeal.

Its all about creating trust in a brand.

    Originality.

Korean tactic. 1st copy. 2nd build reputation. 3rd. branding. 4th. Lead with own design.

All manufacturers started out that way, 1. copy 2. build reputation 3. branding 4. innovation. Not just the Koreans, the Japanese, the Germans, the French and the Americans. They all started out copying, Karl Benz and Henry Ford.

    Malaysian tactic:
1st borrow, 2nd borrow, 3rd trying not to borrow, 4th trying own technology, 5th trying own technology with others’ design, 6th still not leading with own design

China badged cars are definitely gaining momentum in terms of design. That’s because they are willing to take in designers from around the world, they can afford lucrative salaries, they can afford to purchase technological help from overseas. They know with the help of these things around the world, their cars can be developed into world class cars in the future. Proton on the other hand thinks about short term ‘success’. I wouldn’t call it success even. They wouldn’t invest in designers around the world, they wouldn’t let other automakers to purchase part of their share, they themselves don’t want Proton to succeed. I know investments are risky but automakers like KIA and Hyundai produced a tried and tested result and so are their Chinese competitions following suit now reeling in people all over the world. And Proton sits there like ‘what am I doing?’
