Three-month contraflow trial on LDP, from Puchong

LDP

LDP users, take note. Damansara-Puchong Highway concessionaire Litrak has announced a three-month trial of a contraflow traffic system to ease traffic congestion along the busy highway. Aimed to ease traffic from Puchong, Putrajaya and Shah Alam towards Kelana Jaya, the trial will start on December 8, which is next Monday.

The contraflow lane will start at KM21 (Kelana Jaya-bound) of the LDP in Puchong (opposite HSBC, right after IOI Mall), with the exit at KM18. For light vehicles and Touch n Go users only, it will run on weekdays from 6.30am to 9.30am, excluding public holidays. Keep to the rightmost lane to enter the contraflow lane, which will take you pass the clogged stretch between Puchong Jaya and the Petaling Jaya Toll Plaza.

Having the contraflow lane means that Plaza A at the Petaling Jaya Toll Plaza in the opposite direction (from Sunway) will be closed. Motorists from Sunway to KESAS/Puchong can continue to use Plaza B during contraflow hours. See below.

LDP-Contraflow

The new system is expected to benefit some 5,000 motorists during the morning rush hour, with estimated savings of 15 minutes on average for those heading to Kelana Jaya or Damansara.

“Litrak has already added bunting and signages along the highway to inform and guide highway users about the contra-flow. As with any new traffic scheme, there would be minor hiccups as road users will need a few days to get accustomed to the new system,” Litrak CEO Sazally Saidi told The Star. Litrak’s Highway Ronda team will be stationed at selected locations.

Thats great news. Cos the traffic even before the Sunway toll heading towards SS2 is terrible in mornings (despite paying the RM1.60 toll). Urmm, by the way, where is the ending (Km18) exactly? Is that to the NPE exit?

Yeah. Right at the exit to NPE/Sunway Pyramid.
So, i wonder how is that going to improve the traffic. Hmmmm. That stretch of road after the sunway toll is already choked with traffic every morning.
Well, anyway, it is good to try out.

I am guessing what they are trying to achieve is reducing the traffic before the toll heading to sunway compared to after the toll.

Thats quite true, then the jam would be worst near the NPE exit as an additional lane from the opposite lane will be rejoining. Before Sunway toll and just after may not be so bad. Let’s see how it goes.

Coming from Puchong jaya/tpm highway it was horrible on the first day. What we’re they thinking choking up the exit at sunway?!!
Starting off at 7am, it took me more than double the time to get out to federal now.

Makes no difference how many extra lanes you get. Everything will be re-channeled and bottle necked into the 2 lane NPE-Sunway exit. Then, 2 lanes on the cable bridge.

The real bottleneck is the Fed Hwy. Anyone who uses this road will be able to tell you that.

I live in Kenny Hills so I don’t know the extent of the jam there, but its great initiative by the government to help ease the jam and thus save fuel for the people using the highway. Its clear the government hears the people’s concern and is addressing them in a systematic and orderly manner, great work!

Is the article correct? I thought for those heading towards Puchong or Kesas from Sunway, Plaza A is on the left portion of the toll plaza while Plaza B is the right portion. Shouldn’t it be Plaza B be closed during the contraflow hours instead of Plaza A?

  • Good thing they are building new lanes at SILK highway near UNITEN/UPM as well. I got so fed up with congestion every time I’m going to and back from work. However, I think the government should have developed other states more as I think this may lead to mass migration of people from other states to Selangor/KL hence contribute to traffic jams.

  • I used this route every day from Kirara to Damansara. with open more toll gates on puchong-sunway side will only help ease the congestion before toll plaza.. but the jam ahead on exit to federal highway (under the cable bridge
)and also after cable bridge near ex Motorola underpass traffic light to Kelana jaya FAM will still cause the heavy jam if LDP authority are not imposed any traffic control management…

There is another way of doing it. A much better way.

Demolish all the toll gates and let user use the road for free. LDP is a cash cow already and the balance 2 tolls gates at Puchong and Damansara can surely cover their operation with profits there.

Another meaningless trial. Last time there was also a similar trial of contra flow. From only one side jam, end up jam on both ways. This time will be no different. Guarantee. Rather than such trials, better do new permanent solution ie kidex, elevated highway, staggeration, etc.

The biggest mistake Litrak made was building the ‘half-hearted’ interchange near IOI mall. Why still use traffic lights? Should do a full interchange.

LDP should be feasible to be taken over by gov as public road due to the high flow traffic. As we all know our G not interested in public interest and instead make the croni fat and fatter.

Remove the toll plaza. Implement ERP if still need to charge users. It might ease the traffic.

  • For three months??? Mati la like this. I use this route daily, from home at Puchong, send wife to Kelana Jaya, then go to office at Cyberjaya. Today jam like hell. Usually I arrived at office about 8.50am, today I arrived at 10.10am.
I am driving a manual car. Previously, I don’t mind the congestion otw to kelana jaya as it will take at average half an hour stuck in the traffic (normal traffic excluding accidents/broke down cars), and the road is clear on my way to Cyberjaya, so my left foot can relax a bit while driving to my office. Today, both way cannot relax, feeling stressed summore because late for work.
Don’t suggest to me to go to work by bike because I don’t have one, and my wife is 7 month pregnant. I don’t want to risk her and the baby if anything bad happens when riding the bike.
If u want to do feasibility study, please INCLUDE yourself as one of the drivers, and not just standing by the toll booths watching us getting stuck and taking picture of our sour face in the morning.

Can people wake up early and go to work to avoid the heavy traffic.
I reach KL Jln Ampang from Puchong Jaya in 30minutes.

  • This morning traffic was bad. Previously, heading into Puchong was clear but this morning it was the total opposite.

However, this could be due to many not knowing the new contra flow.

Hopefully within the next few days (or weeks), when traffic is more regulated, hopefully traffic would be better.

  • It makes no difference. In the past traffic from the cable bridge heading towards Puchong is free flowing but thanks to the new contra flow, its causing a massive bottle neck after the sunway toll. Did LDP really think properly on the move. You have about 10 lanes becoming 2.

Yang menyebabkan kesesakan ialah perancangan sesuatu bandar. dalam waktu 7am-10am berapa kereta akan menghala kuala lumpur, PJ & Sunway? Please stop more construction inside Klang Valley. Manusia dah terlalu padat. Gunalah kawasan lain yang dipinggiran.

this is not really working out… the close half og the main road to become single lane.. and all car is jam death inside. while the new open road hav less user than they thought…. the jam getting worst. …it will help some of the driver from other direction beside of puchong ppl, what they need to do is drive all the way into puchong for a stupit big u turn n jam infront of
    the contra road…

  • It doesn’t make any difference, when the contra flow starts the jam will starts when they close one lane for those car which is in Plaza A to cut in, infact the situation got worse…………I hope LDP management can come out with a better plan….imagine, now is school holiday and it has created some much trouble, what if the school reopen….god bless then……
