VIDEO: Next-gen Chevrolet Malibu gets torture tested

Teased last week, the next-generation Chevrolet Malibu has now been featured in a quick spot whereby prototypes of the vehicle are subjected to various ‘torture’ situations as part of its endurance testing regime. The all-new D-segment sedan is expected to make its debut at the 2015 New York International Auto Show.

The 50-second clip shows camouflaged test mules at the Milford Proving Ground in Michigan being subjected to lap after lap over rumble strips and water crossings. Additional pain comes in the form of high-temperature runs accompanied by wind tunnel exercises.

According to a statement by GM, the engineers have accessed data dating as far back as 1972 to source for records detailing “the harshness and frequency of every jounce, bump and shudder inflicted on the car on roads in the U.S., Russia, Saudi Arabia and developing markets.”

On the local front, the current-gen Chevrolet Malibu was launched in September 2014. Offered in a sole LTZ trim, the model sports a 2.4 litre Ecotec engine with 165 hp and 225 Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The CBU from South Korea model is priced at RM155,444 OTR sans insurance.
