Footage of a senior citizen getting run over by a car at a petrol station in Kluang, Johor, has emerged. The shocking incident, captured on the station’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, was believed to have occurred at a petrol station along Jalan Besar at around 12 pm on Sunday, according to reports by The Star.

The victim, 70-year old Mohamad Nasir Manas, was struck to the ground while refuelling his car before being run over by what looks to be a Perodua Kancil driven by a 42-year old woman. According to Kluang OCPD Assistant Commissioner, Mohamad Laham, the driver was believed to have lost control of the car after her slippers were accidentally wedged beneath the accelerator.

“Mohamad Nasir suffered severely fractured his hips among other injuries, and was sent to Kluang Hospital for treatment,” added Laham. The unfortunate incident further serves to highlight the importance of donning proper footwear when operating a motor vehicle.

Should you ever find yourself driving a car or even riding a motorcycle, please make it an effort to put on the necessary gear for your safety as well as the safety of other motorists. We’ve all heard of freak accidents taking place due to the use of improper footwear getting caught under accelerator pedals prior to this. Remember, being able to engage all pedals with confidence is the first step to avoiding mishaps.
