SPIED: Infiniti Q60 coupe revealed before Detroit debut

Spy-Shots of Cars

Previewed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the Infiniti Q60 Concept was meant to preview the production model of the replacement for the G37 coupe. The finished product is expected to debut at next year’s event, but thanks to these spyshots, we no longer need to wait “that” long.

In these series of photographs, we see the new Infiniti Q60 completely devoid of any camouflage as it poses for a promotional shoot just outside of Las Vegas. As you can see, the car retains many of the design cues from the exciting-looking concept from earlier.

Up front, the bold Infiniti grille dominates the Q60’s face, flanked by a pair of very shapely headlights. Where the concept had futuristic-looking ones, the production version goes with a more conventional design, with what appears to be LED lighting elements. Thankfully, the positioning light bar that surrounds the LED unit appears to be retained.

Just like the concept, the Q60 retains its muscular hood design, including the thin bump located just above the Infiniti logo. However, where the concept had a cool Formula 1-like front wing at the lower bumper, the finished product appears to have ditched that component for something a little more reserved.

Along the sides, the sleek roofline of the Q60 is highlighted by the same crescent-shaped ‘kink’ in the C-pillar, as seen on the Infiniti Q50. Chrome surrounds are also found on the window frame as well. From the angle of the photos, it’s hard to tell if the Q60 is wearing the same alloy wheels of the concept, although they appear to be finished in a two-tone paintjob.

The short rear-end plays host to taillights that take the shape of the concept, with changes to its graphics for production reasons. Other visible changes see the uniquely-shaped exhaust tips of the concept be replaced with two standard round tip ones. This also results in a modification of the bumper’s lower portion to accommodate them, finished in black.

On the powertrain side of things, the Infiniti Q60 will get a 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 engine paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The engine itself is Infiniti’s own, and not one derived from Mercedes. The German marque however, is said to provide its 2.0-litre turbo unit to the Q60, which is currently used by the Q50. The Q60 should also share the same platform as the Q50 as well.

Sadly, these spyshots do not include any photos of the Q60’s interior but expect it to follow the current crop of Infiniti cars, most probably of the Q50 sedan. Full details and official photos should provide a better clarification on the Infiniti Q60 once the vehicle debuts in Detroit next year.

Competition for the Infiniti Q60 will come in the form of the BMW 4 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe and the Lexus RC. What do you think of the Infiniti Q60? Does it have what it takes to go up against the competition? Let us know in the comments below.
