New Suzuki GSX-R250-R to enter market in 2016?

Suzuki GSX-R250R

Suzuki has been notable for its absence in the sports quarter-litre class, especially in Malaysia. This might be set to change according to a visordown report showing the cover of Japanese magazine Auto-By with what is purported to be the incoming Suzuki GSX-R250R.

With increasing demand from markets like India, China, Indonesia and Thailand, Suzuki might be poised to try and grab market share from rivals Kawasaki and Yamaha, who have shown strongly in the sports 250 cc class in recent years. Reports suggest the baby Gixxer will be powered by a twin, despite contrary rumours it would have a four-cylinder.

The GSX-R250-R looks to be carrying the DNA of its bigger siblings, notably in the headlight, which mimics the unit found in the GSX-R1000. Up-side down forks look to be standard as well, and from the picture, the de rigeur single-disc setup in front.

Ideally, this bike should be powered by an In Line 4 250cc engine, just like the glory days of the Japanese 250cc mini superbike rocketship back in the mid-1980s to early-1990s. But in today’s economic & market condition, this is not going to happen, given the cost of producing 250cc 4 cyl engine is roughly the same as middleweight (600cc upwards) engine, making it a bit pointless to market it as cheap entry level sportsbike. It’s very likely 250cc twin-cylinder engine will power this bike, just like most of the Japanese competition. Hopefully the exterior design will not not differ much from that pic.

Dear Editor. From the sole picture provided above, it surely look like a regular fork to me than USD. Look at the mounting near handlebar. By the way, there are more sources indicating the possibilities of this machine spec such as the leak spyshot from China, kinda telling it’s a sub 30hp machine than the current crop. Cheers.
