A new one-way ride-sharing app dedicated to those looking to get to KLIA or KLIA2 has been introduced, The Star reports. Airport2u, created and operated by two former taxi drivers, will allow passengers to get to either airport from a set pick-up point (currently 27 available) that can be selected in the app.

Riders need to choose a pick-up point and departure time seven days before the intended travel date. Airport2u will then hook the passenger up with a taxi that’s headed to the chosen pick-up point. An e-mail will be sent to the riders, notifying them on how to pay for the trip.

According to co-creator and CEO, Apriman Darlis, as it is a ride-sharing app, Airport2u is not exclusive to one rider, and it allows up to three passengers in one taxi. “The pick-up point will act like a bus terminal. We gather the passengers together,” said technical support manager and co-creator Lee Kong Yew.

A check on the price from a few of the pick-up points showed that getting to KLIA2 from Tropicana City Mall, Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya and Scott Garden, Old Klang Road will cost RM32.90 per person. From 1 Mont Kiara, Danau Kota Central Mall and Kepong, RM39.90 is chargeable.

Currently, the company has signed on a total of 35 taxi drivers – all using multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs). As mentioned, it’s only a one-way trip, which means that riders cannot hitch a ride back from either airports.

Lee said that with the app and many pick-up points available, riders do not have to depend on having to get down to KL Sentral to get to the airport. “We are targeting single travellers, budget travellers,” Lee said. As commission, Airport2u will take a total of between RM4 to RM10, depending on the pick-up point. The app is available for download on the Google Play Store.

    This will fail. Why?

    1. Because only 35 taxis involved.
    2. How many single traveler will be at specified location? If can manage to get 1 traveler only, then will be a lost for taxi drivers.
    3. Better take Uber as they can pick you up right infront of your house.
    4. Price also much cheaper if divide by 4 for Uber (max 4 riders for Uber)

Doom to fail. I dont foresee any customers want to go to a particular meeting point with their luggages to be driven to KLIA when you can just hail a UBER who comes to pick you up at the house. With only 35 taxis to launch the service, I’m sure it’ll not work.
