The new Renault Captur is certainly one of the most distinctive B-segment crossovers in Malaysia. Its flowing lines highlight its unique proportions, while the combination of its large 17-inch bi-tone wheels, wide tracks and a steeply raked, forward-set windscreen is said to form a blend of SUV, hatchback and MPV. With a turbocharged engine up front, it promises excellent fuel efficiency too.

On top of this, with four permutations of in-vogue two-tone bodywork available – Arizona Orange (body)/Diamond Black (roof), Beige/Diamond Black, Ivory/Diamond Black and Pacific Blue/Ivory – the Renault Captur should appeal to a particularly broad spectrum of tastes and desires. Stylish LED daytime-running lights are also featured here to appear modern and distinctive.

It ticks all the right boxes, with its high ground clearance and black plastic mouldings providing an SUV-like look and feel, while the two-part horizontal rear lights permit a wide tailgate, steering clear of a boxy look. It also features the brand’s the new frontal identity, with a large Renault logo set against a dark surface.

The stylish form and function approach continues inside too. Though compact in size (it’s only fractionally longer than the Renault Clio GT Line), the Renault Captur is particularly roomy inside. The split-folding, sliding rear bench provides the ideal balance of space for five passengers and their luggage, with a best-in-class cargo capacity of 455 litres with the seats up.

There’s also a removable boot floor for added practicality. The multi-position floor is reversible, with carpeting on one side and plastic on the other. This can be useful to carry wet/dirty items, while the covered compartment underneath can be handy to hide valuable items. The innovative and lifestyle-driven theme continues with the standard removable seat covers that can be unzipped and removed, to be machine washed and refitted with ease.

Among its list of features include keyless entry, push start button, auto-lock function, Media Nav Evolution touch-sensitive head-unit with navigation and a reverse camera, a reassuringly high, height-adjustable driving position (100 mm higher than the Renault Clio), three Isofix anchors (front passenger, and two outer rear passenger seats) and Hill Start Assist. It also has high-efficiency front airbags, head/chest airbags, pressure sensor to detect impact and it comes with five-star crash safety ratings to provide complete protection.

The 2016 Renault Captur is now available with a more competitive price of RM117,200 (Peninsula Malaysia, OTR inclusive of GST, private individual without insurance), which includes a five-year manufacturer warranty with unlimited mileage to offer customers a worry-free experience.
