The new 2016 Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR has just been launched in India, coming in two versions – the base ZR with drum brakes, and the high-spec version with single front disc brake. Retailing at 52,000 rupees (RM3,053) for the base version, and 54,500 rupees (RM3,200) for the disc brake equipped ZR, this urban scooter is targetted at young males wanting a more ‘masculine’ and aggressively styled mode of transport.

According to reports, the previous generation Cygnus Ray was deemed as “too feminine” in styling by the male Indian buying public. The new 2016 Cygnus Ray-ZR – which replaces the Ray-Z – comes with a 113 cc two-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, part of Yamaha’s of “Blue Core” engine range, designed for use in under-bone motorcycles and scooters.

Coming with sharp edges and wide, flat body panels, the 2016 Cygnus Ray-ZR has a claimed fuel consumption figure of 1.5 litres/100 km, and weighs-in at 103 kg. There is also a 21-litre under-seat storage compartment. Expected to hit Indian dealerships in May, the 2016 Yamaha Cygnus Ray-ZR will be sold alongside the Cygnus Ray, which will be marketed to female riders.
