In a bid to expand its foothold in South East Asia, Apollo Tyres recently announced the setting-up of its office in Malaysia. The Indian company already has a presence in the region, including Thailand and Indonesia, where it also operates a sales and distribution hub in Bangkok.
Apollo Tyres is aiming for a bigger share in the Malaysian replacement tyre market, which has an annual capacity of 580,000 truck-bus radials and 9.5 million passenger car tyres. The new Malaysian office will host a complete team of sales and service personnel to meet the needs of local customers.
“Over the past two to three years we have been making steady inroads into the Malaysian market as this is a pivotal market for our growth in the region,” said Satish Sharma, the Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa president at Apollo Tyres.
“Our product range fits well with the Malaysian consumer requirements and with the support of our key distribution and retail partners in Malaysia, we have been able to penetrate most of the key replacement tyre market segments. Now that we have a foothold in Malaysia, we believe it is the perfect time to step up our focus in this market with the establishment of the Apollo Tyres’ Malaysian subsidiary,” he added.
According to the tyre maker, its Apollo Endurance range of truck-bus radials have been well received here, and its range of passenger car tyres is capable of servicing nearly 90% of the Malaysian passenger car tyre market.

Certain things, we are good at. Certain things we are not. If you’re good at something, do it better. What if Messi wanted to dance ballet, but his natural talent is football? You would advise him to go for ballet, I suppose.
For Proton, if selling Nasi Lemak can gain profit, do you think they need to change their business model?
