The Road Transport Department (JPJ) says it will carry out a study to establish a new standard operating procedure (SOP) when setting up roadblocks, Bernama reports.

According to the department’s director-general Datuk Nadzri Siron, the idea of revamping the set-up is to minimise traffic congestion during operations, which is very much the case with the current SOP in place.

He said that the existing SOP received complaints from road users. “I am aware that the public has brought this matter up in the social media, comparing the way roadblocks are set up in developed countries where all the lanes are left open, compared to the one lane the JPJ leaves open now,” he told reporters.

“I have also instructed that the best module be looked at to reduce traffic congestion during operations, for the sake of all parties,” he added.
