Hyundai has released the first renderings of its sixth-generation Grandeur – known as the Azera in some markets – ahead of its world premiere soon. The IG will replace the fifth-gen HG, which has been around since 2011 (a facelift debuted in 2014), and will begin selling in Korea within the next month.

Tagged by the automaker as a ‘game-changer’, the new Azera/Grandeur’s bold-looking front fascia – complete with a cascading grille – and taut lines represents a dramatic departure from its predecessor’s styling, but hints from previous Azera models are still on to ensure it’s still fundamentally recognisable as the newest generation of a distinct lineage.

No mention of powertrain choices as yet for the front-wheel drive offering, but that available for the IG shouldn’t depart from that seen on the current car, which sits between the Sonata and Genesis within Hyundai’s Korean/American model range.

Presently, the vehicle is available with two Theta 2.4 litre four-pots (MPI and GDi) and two Lambda V6 units, a 3.0 litre and a range-topping 3.3 litre, as well as a hybrid variant featuring the 2.4 litre MPI and a 35 kW electric motor combination.

As standard, the existing car features a six-speed auto transmission, but it’s expected that the new eight-speed ‘box seen on the new second-gen Kia Cadenza will also be offered on this one.
