Kia Cerato Koup discontinued in US due to poor sales

According to a report by CarsDirect, Kia will discontinue the Cerato Koup (known as the Forte Koup in other markets) in the United States due to poor consumer demand for the model.

“To better align with our customers’ purchasing trends, Kia Motors America (KMA) will discontinue the two-door Koup following the sell-down of remaining 2016 model year inventory,” said Kia spokesperson James Hope.

The Cerato Koup is available with either a 2.0 litre four-cylinder GDI engine rated at 173 hp, or a more powerful 1.6 litre turbocharged GDI engine with 201 hp. For the Malaysian market, the two-door coupe is still on sale, and comes equipped with the turbo mill.

The demise of the model in the US isn’t surprising considering the 2017 Forte comes with several improvements, and the latest Honda Civic Coupe is better equipped for nearly the same price. As pointed out by CarsDirect, the starting price of the Cerato Koup is USD20,740 (RM89,752) whereas the Civic Coupe starts at USD20,825 (RM90,120).

Even in malaysia it’s not selling well. Have never even seen 1 on the roads so far. Why bother buying a lousy 2 door car. Get the real deal please.

Rebadge it as a Proton, give it a manual transmission and sell it below RM50k. It will sell!

Firstly look at C200 Coupe, same layout with frameless window, produces about the same power, the C200 is 185hp/290nm while the cerato koup is 204/265nm, the c200 sprint from 0-100 in 7.6s while the koup 7.4s, interior wise, apart from a more premium material used in the c200, the koup provide more spacious rear seats and better dashboard arrangement with decent compartments to place your big samsung note or iphone 7plus. the koup even have better front seat with cooled ventilated driver seat which is a bonus in our hot climate. the fit and finish is comparable not rattles and for normal daily drive to work, apart from the brand, i dont see any more added advantage of the extra 170k price tag on the c200 coupe. forget about the civic, its out of the koup league here in term of performance, as well as design.
