Over the weekend, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia put up a teaser of an upcoming model introduction on its Facebook page, the graphic featuring a darkened silhouette view of the vehicle’s front end. The outline of the profile suggests that the mystery car is the refreshed Mercedes-Benz GLA.
The X156 facelift is set to join the reworked W176 A-Class and C117 CLA-Class in the local line-up, completing the range of primary MFA offerings available in the country. Based on the countdown timer, the reveal date for the new GLA will be May 25.
As before, three variants will be expected for the local market – the GLA 200, GLA 250 and range-topping GLA 45 4Matic made their debut here in November 2014. Outputs for the first two remain unchanged, the 1.6 litre GLA 200 having 154 hp/200 Nm, while the 2.0 litre GLA 250 continues on with 208 hp and 350 Nm.
The 2.0 litre M133 in the GLA 45 4Matic will feature the output revision introduced in 2015, which hiked the output to 375 hp and 475 Nm (20 hp and 25 Nm up from before). Aside from the usual cosmetic changes to the front and rear of the car, new items include Apply CarPlay and Android Auto support, a reverse camera, a 360-degree surround-view camera system and an eight-inch free-standing display screen, the latter now standard across the model range.
