Which variant to buy

Most buyers should choose the RM258,888 GLA200 AMG Line. Its 161 hp 1.33-litre petrol engine, wet dual-clutch automatic and front-wheel drive are enough for the entry point into the range. Pay the RM37,000 jump to the RM295,888 GLA250 4Matic AMG Line if you specifically want all-wheel drive and stronger performance: it gets 221 hp from a 1.99-litre petrol engine. The GLA200 matches the MINI Countryman’s starting price and costs RM6,088 more than the BMW X1.

Verdict

The facelifted GLA brings a revised front bumper, vertical-louvre grille insert and reworked rear bumper, while the cabin gets the latest MBUX system. The GLA200 is the rational entry point, but its price sits above the BMW X1’s starting figure. The GLA250 makes a clearer mechanical case with 60 hp more and 4Matic all-wheel drive, though that capability comes at a substantial RM37,000 step up.
